thecrippler: I have purchased a licence :/

I always get "walk & drive not available in region" error ...

Have you downloaded the new map loader? If not, download and install (links provided earlier by ZaneO). connect your phone in Mass Memory mode then select the New Zealand maps to be downloaded and transferred to your phone

In order for the GPS to work, which connection do people use?

I get 4 options and can never work out which one is the right one.

I've updated the phone to the latest version and also installed the latest maps software - is there anything else I need to do?

Thanks

the connection i use is my wlan if im within range or just use VF internet.

yup ive used the new map loader,  1.3.8.  also used 1.3.5 before that.

I removed all the pervious maps and reinstalled them with 1.3.8.

Is the voice navigation software working fine for you?

The 4 options you are referring to I presume are the Vodafone access points. You don't need to use any of them as the GPS uses the internal GPS receiver, unless you want to also go online (which is what you are prompted for).

Check you are getting a satellite signal by opening Tools --> Connectivity --> GPS Data. Then select anyone of the options - Navigation, Position, Trip Distance - and then select Options --> Satellite Status. Remember that to get best GPS reception, open the slider and have the phone angled at about 45 degrees, and of course be outside Embarassed

Depending on the conditions, it can take a few minutes to lock on but you will start with a few empty bars and once you see black bars, open up the maps application. You will see the green bars at the bottom right-hand corner and wal-lah.

good luck!

Yes works fine for me. All I can suggest is perhaps uninstall then re-install (second nature after being exposed to Windows all these years). Failing that, post the errors you are having on http://www.n95users.com/forum. Heaps of more experienced folk than I

It would be helpful to know which firmware you're on (type *#0000# into the active standby screen to find out).

If you're not on at least V20 (V21 is the latest) then a firmware upgrade is likely to help you a lot (in fact, I think the latest version of Nokia maps requires it).

Ah, N82, missed that - in that case you're on the latest firmware (V21 is for the N95). I'll have to read back through and see what else I can think of to help you out...

Ah, just read through properly - looks like you don't have the latest version of the Nokia Maps software (I had the same thing as you initially, but they had released a new version of the maps app the day after I installed the 2.0 beta...).

oh ok, which map loader are you using?

I assumed 1.3.8 was the latest.  Im also using maps 2.0 and the 12.6mb maps through the map loader program

When/where did you download the Maps 2.0 version you have? The issue you're having is with that, not the maps I think.

I downloaded version 2.0 of Nokia Maps and tested it on my N95 with the optional spoken navigation service.

The previous version of Maps for NZ was completely useless - the map data was hopeless.  But this new version of the app is truly amazing.

The maps are now very accurate in the areas I have tested, the voice guidance was great and it was able to recaclulate revised route within 1-2 seconds of me deliberately driving off the route to see how it would cope.  The zoom level auto adjusted based on motorway vs side streets.  Being able to search and locate a street address in NZ without having to go online is nice too.

Even without the optional subscription service for spoken navigation instructions I would rate this is a "must-have" application.

Oh i get what your saying now.

I think I got it from a blogsite or symbian freaks.  It was the maps2.0 not the beta.

Do you have a link to a reliable source for downloading?
