My question is, how do you swith between the data mode and the telephony mode ?? The only way I have managed to disconnect the data mode is by turning on to flight mode, then turning off the flight mode .... hmmmm ... i know theres another way :-)

Just hold the red 'phone' button down for a few seconds to disconnect from the net.

I find often if i was doing something else, I have to press the red phone button once, then release, then press and hold.

disenchanted: I have the same problem. To make sure that it will disconnect I make sure I hear the 'beep' when I press the red button down. Sometimes a few seconds after it has disconnected it tries to redial again. Not 100% sure why but my thought is that I have another app that wants internet access that I didnt close down properly. To fix this I go to settings, system, memory and running programs and then close them all.

Correct. Usually a web page that hasnt finished loading, or email that wants to check again.
When you click 'x' to close programs, they only minimise, not close.

You can get software to alter this behaviour - this has been mentioned in a thread as recently as yesterday i think (not sure which thread though!!).

Or a Today plugin that downloads weather information, or a RSS feed reader (like our Newsbreak Lite) configured to update feeds on a schedule, or ActiveSync incorrectly configured to connect to a computer every 5 minutes... There are lots of things that require a network connection in our lives these days.
