Ok, so I've got a HTC Touch Pro and I recently downloaded a program called GeoScout 2. It's a program for GeoCaching. Anyway, I tried to run it but it says I need the correct SQL Server Compact componants installed on my device. I just downloaded SQL Server Compact  Edition 3.5 / 3.5 Service Pack 1. It put the file on my PC but not on my phone. Now I'm not sure what the correct procedure is to get it on my phone so I can use the GeoScout program.
Can anyone help me or point me in the right direction for getting the help I need?

Thank You.

I think I'm supposed to click on one of the files in the folder from the download to load it on my phone but I'm not sure.

Did you install the Windows Desktop runtime or the Windows Mobile runtime?  There are separate installers for each.
The Windows Mobile one is here:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=fce9abbf-f807-45d6-a457-ab5615001c8f

Then you need to copy the appropriate cab files to the device and run them.

From Books Online:

Installing SQL Server Compact 3.5 When Deploying a Native Application

SQL Server Compact 3.5 and SQL Server Compact 3.5 Query Analyzer are installed automatically if you are using Visual Studio 2008 with a smart device project. They require manual installation if you are developing a native application by using Visual C++.

You must manually copy SQL Server Compact 3.5 and SQL Server Compact 3.5 Query Analyzer to the device by copying and extracting the following .cab files from %ProgramFiles%\Microsoft SQL Server Compact Edition\v3.5\Devices\platform\processor\ to the root directory of the device:

  • sqlce.device_type.platform.processor.CAB

  • sqlce.dev.language.device_type.platform.processor.CAB

  • sqlce.repl.device_type.platform.processor.CAB

For your device, the cabs would be:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server Compact Edition\v3.5\Devices\wce500\armv4i\sqlce.dev.ENU.ppc.wce5.armv4i.CAB
C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server Compact Edition\v3.5\Devices\wce500\armv4i\sqlce.ppc.wce5.armv4i.CAB
C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server Compact Edition\v3.5\Devices\wce500\armv4i\sqlce.repl.ppc.wce5.armv4i.CAB

You can leave out the sqlce.dev.ENU.ppc.wce5.armv4i.CAB if you don't want the Query Analyzer.

Graeme.
