No conspiracy - TNZ are not blocking MSN Messanger - in fact TNZ don't block anything the CDMA internet realm is totally open, the same as a DSL or dial-up connection. It has never worked consistantly on the Apache and the issue has been rasied several times with MS. Still no solution. It is not even an issue related to the region we live in.

Apache goes to a different MS server than Harrier and trys to establish an SSL connection. Hence why Harrier works and Apache doesn't.

It will be fixed sooner or later but the wheels at MS turn even slower than TNZ.....

Wow! I guess people didn't have any idea of different servers being used by different models.

Great update on this, thanks Jama!

Hi Chiefie

My jasjar has never been able to log in (had it about 2 and a half weeks and really enjoying it by the way). I get a "Temporary conditions currently prevent connecting to the Pocket MSN Service". I understand that this service includes Pocket Messenger

I have just tried again and no louck. The unit is currently syncd with my lap top and obtaining internet through our Telstra cable.

Interestingly, my laptop is happily logged into normal MS Messenger 7.5

Go figure

I would have to assume then that it is impacting on all WM5 devices in some way or another.

Mauricio may be its time for the first, official, Geekzone sanctioned petition. We could send it Ross Peat - MD of MS NZ.

JasJar: while I was able to login over Wifi and UMTS before, today it won't let me in to MSN at all.

Have poked the 'serfs at MSNZ about this, but no reply yet. One way to find out what's going on would be to run a packet sniffer on the connection going over Wifi I suppose.

We ran an Ethereal trace which is how we found out about the SSL and the different server. This trace was sent to MS.

Maybe someone like Computerworld should take up the fight for the masses. I am sure there is an IDG journo floating around this forum some where....

Yeah... dammit, we want our MSN! :)

On the other hand, I'm not sure if MSNZ can do anything. Probably has to go to the US, through several layers of management who are wondering why they can't find New Zealand in Australia, etc, etc.

I wont tell you the method suggested by MS NZ that TNZ should follow to get this fixed - it is embarrasing. But put it this way dialing 0900-tech-support was very close to the suggestion!

It's working for me...

Try this: open File Explorer, browse to \Windows, tap-and-hold instmsgr.exe, select Copy. Browse to \Windows\Start Menu\Programs, tap Menu | Edit | Paste Shortcut. Feel free to rename the new icon to something better, such as "MSN Messenger".

Anyway, try from this icon, through a CDMA EV-DO connection. It took a little long to connect today but it works fine.

no, still no luck with those exact instructions over CDMA or WiFi.

I have tried EVDO and 1X.

I have EVDO in my lounge, bedroom, sunroom & hallway, with auto fallback to 1XRTT when I walk into my dining room & kitchen. (True story) I have not tried the spare room, bathroom or loo...

Do you have numbers on your password? Remember, to enter a sequence of numbers you have to press the red button once for each number, or keep it pressed if it's a sequence of numbers. The best way to avoid mistakes when entering the password is to use the on-screen keyboard if in doubt.

I have two messenger accounts, one with numbers, and one without. I have tried both, using the onscreen keyboard. :-(
