I have some ideas about brilliant softwares for Pocket PC's which would make our lives a lot more easier.
I have looked at the Microsoft site, but everything there is either expensive or un-usable.
I want to target specific markets with these special softwares.

The problem is I dont know too much about development in this subject.
Is there any resource which I could go to?

Any help would be appreciated

I'm not sure what you mean by "expensive or un-usable", however, the best place to start in development is indeed the Microsoft MSDN site at http://msdn.microsoft.com/mobility/

Feel free to elaborate on "expensive or un-usable".

Well, my idea is rrp of not more 9.95 for a usable piece.
Will have a look at the site though, see if my ideas are already stolen or not...

BTW does anyone know how can I patent my ideas? I am sure they are very original.

Be careful with the wording you use.

You just mentioned stolen ideas in connection with Microsoft's web site.

They can sue you, you know.

If you have not told anyone about your ideas, or if you have not patented them yet, then they can't be stolen - if they are somewhere else is just because someone else came up with the same solution to a similar problem.

For patent I recommend you look for a lawyer - I use one here in Wellington for trademark registratio, look for these services in the Yellow Pages.

Thanks will talk to the lawyer..

BTW the topics "MS reference" and "ideas" was totally exclusive. Anyway, I am sure this forum offers right of free speech/"ideas"

But on this topic (i am totally ignorant) prob the admin would like to comment if ideas/thoughts represented here are liable to lawsuites or not (if its not revealing any company info)?

If not prob everyone should have a disclaimer with their signature.

I think the whole topic is wrong...

Your original post was about developing for Windows Mobile - this was replied to by Darryl pointing to the correct resource(s).

I take the comment by Aloha as a irony, and wouldn't worry about that. On the MSDN site you will be collecting information about development, not sharing your idea with anyone else.

My subsequent comment was just a note that you can't really check someone's site to see if your idea was stolen - unless you have previously made your idea public and someone used it to develop something, which I think is not the situation.

But remember that if you publish an idea anywhere, it's forever public, so if you want to patent something talk to a lawyer first, before disclosing any information related to the implementation or the origin of the idea.

As for your comment "Anyway, I am sure this forum offers right of free speech/"ideas"", yes sure providing you folllow our forum usage guidelines.

Back on topic - developing your application... Look for information on MSDN. Contact your local user groups (.Net or Windows Mobile). If you are a developer already perhaps look at joining the MSDN Connections (NZ) program. The local NZ MSDN site has links to special training DVDs with Visual Studio 2005 so you can start doing some self-training...

Lots of things to read!
