Greetings All,

Sorry if this question has been asked before, but I've searched high and low, and haven't found what I'd consider the definitive answer.

A few months ago I brought myself an IPAQ rx3715 Pocket PC.

I've been playing with it, trying out a few things and getting to grips with it.

I've now decided to wipe it completely clean, and armed with all the things I've learnt, set it up once and for all.

I've learnt that all apps without a today screen plugin should be installed to my SD card.

So, I created a 'Program Files' directory on my storage card, but, on attempting to install applications to the card, it puts them in the root directory of the storage card.

I've found CabInstl for installing CAB files to a specified directory, is there a way to do this for other applications?

Welcome to Geekzone... Don't worry about the default location on your storage card. It's better if it's kept untouched, because some programs (wrongly) look for data in specific locations.

The CabInstl software is nice, and it solves a problem where Windows Mobile 2003 would always install a CAB file's contents in the main memory, without any option for the card installation. With Windows Mobile 5.0 this is no longer the case.

Hi Mauricio,

Thanks for that. Nice place you've got here.

I just don't want the card cluttered, as I'm storing my docs and data on there as well. I'd rather not try and find my stuff amongst the PPCs stuff.

1) So, you're saying that there's no way to specify to install an executable to a subdirectory on a storage card under windows mobile 2003?

2) But you can under windows mobile 5.0?

3) Is it possible to upgrade my IPAQ rx3715 to WM 5.0?

4) Any idea how much might it cost me if I went down this route?

Just make sure you store your own data on a folder such as \My Documents on the card. This will keep it separate from the programs.

1.Execatly, unless you use CabInstl, but it only works if you have the original CAB file

2.No, under Windows Mobile 5.0 it will allow you to select Main Memory or Storage Card, like CabInstl does, but without having to run CabInstl

3.I don't think HP has release an update for this model

Also, remember that your SD card is not automatically copied during ActiveSync, so make sure to make a backup part of your routine.
