Is there a log file somewhere that tells me what OVI is busy with when it presents this dialogue?

What is OVI busy with?

lyonrouge: Search for "Remote Desktop" returns MarvTheMiner2 (free version), Snake Revolution, FingerPrint Scanner, Facebook Chat, etc, not even related to the search.

Another example, enter "Maps" three Nokia Maps icons (no indication as to what differentiates them), select the one marked "New" and then enter the phone model (N8) and the list changes to range of maps products, none of which match the one the user selected on the initial screen.

I assume you must be referring to Ovi Store? In that case, it searches against a set of keywords provided by the publisher as well as (I assume) the title and description.

As far as I know there isn't a remote desktop client there yet but I'm sure someone will be working on one. Logmein seem to be good at expanding their software to mobile devices so they may be good to watch.

Thanks. I've looked them up but they have their own protocol, I'm after a client that uses the (now) standard, RDP protocol.

Try SymRDP:

It's for S60 5th edition phones but might work on the N8.

Installs (v1.0) on the N8 but when you select "Free trial registration" it crashes. I'm not willing to buy it just to see if the only bug is in the registration process, as I'm guessing if that does not work then pretty much none of it will work.

I looked at that earlier when trying to find a solution. Their website says it definitely doesn't work on new Symbian but you can register your interest in their online 'petition'. It looks like they're getting a fair amount of interest already.

By the way, Ovi Suite 3 just came out of Beta. This fixes a lot of issues, speeds up the experience a lot and adds some great new features. You should be notified of the update when you check for updates in Ovi Suite, otherwise you can download it from http://www.ovi.com/

That'd be the one. Wasn't sure if you were using the Beta or not already.

This is the one that crashed during upgrade if the phone was connected at the time. Not sure if this was a Win 7 x64 only issue, but upgrading without the phone connected worked fine, but of course what I'm really waiting for is the Jan N8 service pack to get Calendar entries working (and maybe improve support for the ActiveSync push).

Note: the Activesync issue occurs when the users mailbox is full and therefore will not allow sending, even when the mailbox is cleaned and below it's limit, the ActiveSync does not establish correctly./

What is OVI busy with?

Followup on this question, does anyone have a hint as to what OVI (v3.0.0.284) is doing? I don't have any sync set up so it can't be doing that, so what is it doing? I can't check for any further updates becuase it is always busy!?!?

Really not sure about that one. I have only seen it a couple of times and it went away within seconds. Have you left Ovi Suite open for long enough to let it finish what it's doing? It could be, for example, searching your computer for music or something like that.

Same - I've only had it come up if I try to do stuff within a few secs of Ovi opening up

OK, so after waiting an hour I determined it was not doign anything. So I tried to Sync something. As I have an exchange server it is not recommended to Sync with OVI as well, so I only chose to sync the book marks, which after preparing for about 10 minutes

it then returns this

however, I can now view the update screen. I wonder if the Nokia test team perform any testing with "business" desktop configurations, i.e. Domain and exchange servers, I'm certain they havn't by the number of issues I've had (and of course the gastly attempt at calendar management)?
