Are you referring to Nokia Sleeping Screen? It doesn't need your computer to run, so PC OS won't matter.

When you download the sis file it asks what operating system you use. Enter XP and it says it will not work.

Unless you mean to log on to beta from the phone and do it that way?

This is odd, it should be asking you the model rather than the OS. Is this before or after you download it?

If before, you should be able to click 'Show all download instrcutions' at the bottom of the page and download the one for the N8 (get the one that includes the Smart Installer). If the problem is after download, you can install via Ovi Suite if you have it installed. Alternatively plug your phone into the computer in Mass Storage Mode, copy the .sis file to your phone and run it via the File Manager on your N8 (Menu -> Applications -> Office -> File Manager).

Mail for Exchange is playing up again, is there a sot reset, i.e. Something between power cycling and hard reset?

I have been away on the boat for a couple of weeks now and have been using JoikuSpot which has been going fine except that it always takes a number of goes for it to start i.e. it comes up with a start failure message - that regardless of cellular (Vodafone) signal strength. Once it does that a few times it is fine.

Alternative use of phone as a dial up modem whether Bluetooth or USB tethered and same APN is instant connect on dialing.

I haven't even tried reinstalling it or anything but before I start experimenting out here on the briney with limited resources can anyone confirm whether this behaviour is normal or abnormal?

Yes, I think JoikuSpot is still a bit buggy for N8

As I understand it, if you have purchased the Premium edition, there is a N8 upgrade version available for $2 (long story regarding hard reset and request for $2 when reinstalling this application).

Thanks to both of you for the feedback.

Lyonrouge: I have the paid for premium edition and think I have the updated version, the only paid one in the store is shown as version 3.1 and the one I have is 3.10, and is showing as downloaded.

But is a difference in that when I bought mine a couple of weeks ago it was $4.99 and now, as you say, it shows $2. Maybe the clever store knowing I have already downloaded a copy is now inferring that there is a $2 update?

Can you tell me what version the $2 one you got is? Thanks.

I have not got it yet as I have to hard reset it again this evening due to it having an Exchange synchronisation issue.

It looks as though with the increased use and profitability of the Ovi Store worldwide (5m downloads a day at last count) prices across the store have gone down quite dramatically.

OK, I think I have sorted the start up failure issue with JoikuSpot that I had. It seems it doesn't like anything else trying to share the same access point when it starts and takes a bit of time/a few goes to grab control. My email accounts had the AP open for themselves and when I changed them to Always Ask then JoikuSpot seems to start with no delay.

Was a useful way to fill in a cold windy afternoon at sea.

lyonrouge: Out of interest I tried downloading JoikuSpot again from my user area in the store while logged in. It tried to charge me the $2 too at which point I bailed out. But I got the impression that was because it detected that I already had the application on the phone. However, I was not game enough to uninstall it to see whether it would still want to charge me.

Anyway, I think Nik owes you $13 and me $2.99 Wink. About the increased customers at the store Nik, I find that BetaLabs is becoming an increasingly interesting place to visit too.
