Well Just got my one yesterday and it works perfectly on the WCDMA 850mhz
I'm still getting used to it, Its brilliant compared to the Nokia N95 especially the WLAN as I have a Belkin N Router and this phone has a b,g & N connection to the WLAN.

If anyone want to know any details you can just reply to me.

:)

For anyone who has one already - where did you get yours from, and which firmware does it have? What is the product code? Interested in seeing if there are any being sold out there which aren't Chinese/HK versions.

I got mine from Hi Tech Mobile in Newmarket, Auckland. It was an HK firmware. They told me that in advance of me buying it which was nice.

I got it from Parrellel Import, Hamilton at the Base,

version: 011.012
Product Code: 059D1G4

4 languages in the phone: English, Indonisian, Melayu, and Chinese (I think)
I will probably be flashing the phone to a diffrent code to add Arabic language (Last time i flashed a nokia was 3 years ago on my N95)

I have successfully flashed my Nokia N8 to MEA version and is all good, also downloaded Internet radio S60V5 and works better than the one I downloaded from Ovi store.

I also had issue's with the WLAN auto connecting but now have found what the problem was, any widget that requires Internet connection must be closed or disable the widgets and the most important is to remove all e-mail's that has been setup

Thanks for that.

I was about to pick one up yesterday but a bit hesitant now that I've read a few comments online suggesting there are faulty units out there. Some people are having issues with it randomly restarting, refusing to turn on or charge for some time, or getting bricked completely.

sorry to go a little off topic, I need your opinions please,

Just about to click the button on the N8, thing is Im in chch and there are not any parallel importers down here so am looking at buying from the likes of Noel leeming to make the warranty process easier if I have trouble with my handset.

Question is, would you buy in your local town even if its vodafone branded and costs another $100 so you have NZ warranty and access to Nokia care centers?(one in chch)

Or, buy over the net ex auckland, less $ and unbranded. But would have to post away with delays in between if something goes wrong?

Is branding crippling?

Thanks in advance, Can wait to get my hands one one!! Tongue out

Edit: Does anyone know if it will be branded and locked? (N97 wasn't)

Branded, yes, locked, no. FWIW brading these days is usually nothing more than custom startup screens, VLive! links and the local APN's are already configured.

Personally, the difference is price isn't all that much when you factor in shipping, also the convenience of having an actual authorised repair centre in town would be a huge plus for me

Hi Charles000, I did read that too, but hey nothing happened to my one and of-course you might get a glitch here and there on any electronic products but Nokia.
I had one issue in my Nokia N95 and was fixed by Nokia in a week and lasted me 4 years with no problem.

Thanks Brent,

Sounds like the branding's stuff you can easily get rid of. As long as the case isn't that is. Pretty sure the NZ product codes get firmware updates without delay as well.

Now to play the waiting game till the 15th.

I'm glad yours is working ok. But just to be on the safe side due to what I've heard, I think I'll wait until I can get one from an authorised reseller in NZ (I live just down the road from Nokia Care in Newmarket, so it's handy if there are any issues). I hear they will be on sale from 15th November.

I went to try and pre-order one from digitalmobile, but their website doesn't give any options for colour, and only showed a white unit.

I wonder If NZ is only getting Silver (white) for a start as the other retailers are also only showing silver for pre order. (Noel leeming/bondnbond). May have to go parallel import to get the black one....

Hmm I hope not! Can't see too many people going for the white/silver one. Maybe BrentR would be able to confirm or deny this for us? I think I'll wait until next week, see what the authorised retailers have, and if they don't have grey/black I'll be heading to parallel imported.
