I have suitable hardware, Ipaq 2210 and Garmin Etrex with cables but I have not bought any software yet. I tested the system and cables with Oziexplorer trial version and it works but I have not decided which software to buy as they are expensive and I need something which has maps for whole country and I want to find my way to good camping spots like DOC campgrounds. So I am doing a lot of vehicle based camping but laptop is too big. Looks like most software is good for finding your way in the cities?

We have some reviews of GPS and most are made with local maps. Check them out. But the problem I see is that you have to copy the maps, calibrate, etc.

If you don't want all this trouble you can purchase Navman maps for your Pocket PC (not for Windows Mobile 5, only Windows Mobile 2003 as far as I can see for now).

The program has NZ maps, complete route calculation, voice instructions for driving, really nice. A bit expensive, but it's a good product.
