1. Is there any way to reset the outlook email on my handheld to start from scratch or rather force it to have the PC overwrite the desktop? the closest thing i could come up with is to set my handheld to sync for the last day, delete all the emails that dont sync any more and then set the handheld to sync all my emails.  This takes a long time when you have over 20 emails to delete.

2.  My handheld does not always make a valid connection when i plug it in.  I need to disconnect and reconnect it a second time for the PC to recogize it.  Any reason?

3.  It seems i very often have to manually go in and "stop running programs" to get my handheld to work right.  is there any way around this or any way to set a program to actually close?

thank you

would be helpful if you could provide the make and model and the os and general specification of your pocket pc.

and your setup between your pocket pc and your desktop, and how email (outlook) on desktop is set up, either exchange or pop etc. and what sort of connection you have between pocket pc and desktop.

once these basic info is provided, i am sure others will have suggestion.

If you want to delete everything to start clean, then you can perform a hard reset. The easiest way is to run the "Clear Storage" program. This will erase everything from the PDA, and you will have it clean to start over. Any third party programs, and configurations, will have to be reinstalled.

Is there a reason why you want to do this? I mean, the default is to have the operations synchronised, and you can set (as you found out) a limit to how old e-mails have to be to be synchronised. Is this not working for you, or are there any operation (delete, move) that are not being replicated?

As for the connection, check the USB port. Perhaps it's set to power down to save energy? Check the "Devices" list, the USB Root Hubs all have a Power Management tab with a checkbox for this option. Also, make sure it is connected directly to a USB port on your computer, not an external USB Hub.

Programs are not closed automatically, and this can cause some memory problems. Microsoft says it will manage itself, but I rather close the programs I am not using, for the reason you tell us. Try using a program like Magic Button.

Thank you for the reply.

1. to be more specific, i am not looking to do a hard reset for the entire handheld, only for my outlook email. is this possible?

2/3. It seems my handheld wont make a connection with the comupter if i still have activesync running in the background of the handheld when i make the connection...I have to stop activesycn or dosconnect and reconnect the handheld.

Hmmm. Seeing the #2, I would go for the full hard reset. You just have to be sure to have any installer ready to go (most of the programs can be reinstalled from ActiveSync Add/Remove feature without needing to run the installer all over again).

I've tried many hard resets in the past to resolve the USB contection issue and nothing seems to work...I hate having to reset all my preferences.  Is there anyway to just reset outlook mail?
