I've got a T1010 with Win CE 2.12 and I want to upgrade it, however, being firmware based I'm cautious. Has anyone upgraded one of these and importantly, are there any gatchas?

I did a post on "fattening up a thin client" some time back, I have advanced it much more than that since..

t1010's are cheap as chips (I got a huge lot from Trademe for $6 each a while back) so I wouldn't be too worried about blowing the firmware, they are Geode or Cyrix MediGX cores. they have a PCMCIA slot and a CompactFlash slot inside which I'm curious to know how this is used.

I am now running a 1GHz XP embedded HP compaq machine with XP which i've nuterered, placed in DirectX, placed in must more goodies (extra Ram) and is totally secure. Very good, and run on a 500MA power supply and does not get hot or make ANY noise!

The reason I want to upgrade it is to get support ofr USB keyboard & mouse, currently it can see the keyboard in the config screen (but not the mouse), but neither when it connects to the server. Note: I'm using Win 2003 (rdp), MSDN distribution.

They are cheap (and ugly) enough so if destroyed you just buy another, I never had a problem upgrading them.

Have you got any HP's you want to get rid of? I wouldn't mind having a play with one!
