It needs to be supported by your carrier. None of the 3 carriers in NZ support it.

Typical. Is it a Windows Phone unique feature or is it used elsewhere? Wondering if there's be much demand for it and if our NZ carriers are planning to add support...

iPhone was the first device/OS to have this feature AFAIK. Very few carriers around the world support it. I only know of AT&T and T-Mobile in US that support visual voicemail but there might few in Europe that do as well. I guess if there was demand here in NZ, Vodafone who sell the iPhone officially here would have implemented it by now.

Mango is awesome!!! The speed increase is amazing! Loving it so far. It's a completley different beast from what it was. Fantastic

- Sign in on facebook.com
- Scroll down and click on your language (in my case: "Deutsch"). Change it to "English (US)"
- Syncronize your facebook & live account on windows phone.

Disable facebook chat in the phone's message settings.

Login to your live/hotmail.com account you used for your phone.

add facebook if it's not under services already. it is click on it anyways and just then click on save. Back on live.com you should now see messenger friends, and it should show all the people facebook available for chat.

Now go to your phone, settings, email accounts, and sync the live account first, then sync your facebook account.

Go back to messaging and settings and turn fb chat on and everyone should show up!

re-sync the facebook account under settings in windows phone.

after disconnecting facebook on hotmail and re-connecting it again and doing the re-sync of both facebook and windows live on the phone can take up to 24 hours to take effect on the phone.

Tellme voice recognition where the phone reads out chats and text messages is cool and you can reply to the message or call the person without even lifiting the handset. You can now take photos by touching on the screen so don't have to use the hardware button.

Hey I have a mango running on my HD7 and it's doing pretty good. really really polished for a beta. but still a few things to add.

my question is can you get speech to text to work over 3g? It works perfectly over wifi but it seems when i am out and about (which is when i need it the most) it doesnt work.

my carrier is vodafone.

regards

it's vodafone that's the issue. I get speech to text on my facebook chat and windows live chat over 3G fine via telecom XT network.

When I installed the mango BETA on my windows phone, I had my work vodafone sim inserted in the phone in Auckland so had 3G connectivity on 2100MHz band and the phone also confirmed the 3G signal with 4/5 bars. Everytime I logged into facebook/windows live chat on the phone, I kept getting disconnected and logged out every 30 seconds. When I was sending messages to people online, I kept getting kicked out of my account. Inserted my telecom XT sim and I haven't had even 1 disconnection on the chat functionality and voice to text over 3G works without a hitch.

My friend who also has a vodafone's htc branded windows phone with VF sim, gets his voice to text messages delivered to him on the phone after a good couple of minutes.

I also noticed considerable difference between VF and XT when I was running the same apps like twitter, facebook, tripit etc which took a lot longer to pull data on to the app from the internet under VF in comparison to XT.

to give some positive credit to VF, I was getting my emails from work exchange account and hotmail delivered to my windows phone under VF quicker than it even reached my outlook client. This is also the case with my work VF blackberry. XT is always a second or 2 slower in receiving push emails.

I find that speak to txt is almost useless for me. It hardly recognises what I'm trying to say. Still gives me some amusing results haha

it works great for me even though English is not my first language. I have noticed though that tellme does not likes loud background noises. it's perfect in my car as I have a cradle for the phone and my sound system mutes automatically before the call is connected or before the facebook and windows live messages are read and I can reply to them via voice.

ah ok thanks for that... my speech to text is working perfectly over wifi. to the point it's a little scary because i mumble a lot. its pretty cool when you just wake up and cbf replying texts XD

anyway, do you know what vodafone settings this speech to text issue could be under? i have a friend who works at vodafone who might be able to have a peek into the system files and see if they "can" do anything about it.

what baffles me is that it works on wifi, so it should work over 3g. but according to this (http://windowsteamblog.com/windows_phone/b/windowsphone/archive/2011/07/06/windows-phone-around-the-world-language-support-in-mango.aspx?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter]source[/url] ) it says

Voice-to-text and Voice-to-dial is available in 6 countries: France, Germany, Italy, Spain, United Kingdom, and the Unites States.

oh and lastly, i got multiple gmail calendar accounts to sync on my phone. source http://pocketnow.com/windows-phone/how-to-sync-multiple-google-calendars-in-wp7-mango-beta
and i used firefox (not a mac user). if anyone is interested let me know i will be happy to help out

^ ah you have the region setting issue as well then. on your phone, go to settings then region and language.

set 'region format' to New Zealand English
set 'system locale' to United States
set 'browser and search language' to United States

you will then see a 'tap to reboot phone blah blah' line. select it to reboot the phone and then try the text to speech option over 3G.
