Finally caved in and bought a Steam game however I don't know why I bothered. For some weird reason, I thought I could buy a game and play it the same night. I purchased Civilization V (not on daily deal but I wanted to play it tonight). 9 hours later it is still downloading and showing approx an hour left to go.

Currently, its coming down the pipes at 35kb/s. Sheesh!

That's odd.  Did you try changing your server in preferences?  I use Snap's and have been downloading at an okay speed today.

I was on the Orcon server so changed to Snap's server. Speed varied a lot and got me excited when it hit 300kb/s - then it went almost immediately down to 18kb/s :-( It stayed under 30kb/s for a very long time but I finally got Civ5 GOTY in 16 hours.

While the sale has been on I've noticed their speeds have been a little on the slower side. But anything under 100kb/s is ridiculous. If you know anybody else with the Steam version of the game you can grab the files off them.

Compared to previous Steam sales this one is pretty average. The Christmas ones are always good.

I've bought a few larger ones this sale, and the majority of the time it's maxing out my connection at around 1.8MB/s.  Snap's server is down I believe but I've been switching between Orcon and TCL.  The few times it's hovered around 200-300kB/s I just switch the preferred server which restarts steam and the downloads are nice and fast again...

That sucks - I'm with Orcon and have downloaded lots of Steam games at max speed for my connection (approx 1.2 mbytes / s). Also around 50-90% of the download ends up being zero rated for traffic which is good.

Just had my credit card temporarily declined by steam for buying too many games! Eeek. Hope they reinstate it before the last day of sale...

It's funny because at first I've always read your comments and been like "you don't know what your missing" because for me Steam turned me into a PC gamer. Before that it was PS3 or nothing. But then I realised I was being an absolute hypocrite as I refuse to buy music from iTunes as I have to download iTunes onto my computer instead of just being able to download the music I want. I must ask do you use iTunes?

If it helps I just purshased the DLC for Batman Arkham City and it came down at 1.5 MB/s (aka 12 Mbit) on Telecom.

Bought some stuff from the steam. Left 4 Dead pack, Alan Wake Franchise, Trine 2, Just Cause 2, AudioSurf and two other games I don't want to bother mentioning because I though they were bad. Luckily they were under 3 bucks.

So far, Trine 2 is my most favored game along with Just Cause 2.

One thing I absolutely hated about the sale was the huge amounts of repeats. While I hated it, I can acknowledge that it was absolutely great for people who missed out on a few items and wanted to purchase them.

I bought Iron Front Liberation 1944 for $29 US and based on the low scoring reviews kinda wish I didn't buy it now kinda average game compared to RO2 (Red Orchestra 2), Was downloading around 1.2mb/sec on Snap so can't complain about that but yeah bit of a waste of moolah. :( wanna get my moneys worth out of it before I remove it though.

Yes, on a VM :-) But, even then, I don't allow Bonjour to install or allow any Apple anythings to run automatically. I have an iPad, what can I say? LOL
