Hmm considering I think CPU, 16GB Memory and a good motherboard is $1200 + GST give or take, I am trying to work out what I should do. The mainboard, CPU and Memory in my box are ~3.5-4 years old, I don't like stuff getting too old from a reliability perspective

wasabi2k: Just out of interest do you have any reason to upgrade? Something that is limited by CPU?

These chips look to be absolutely awesome for laptops - which suits me fine.

If you're already on Ivy bridge - not worth an upgrade for a desktop.

I was under the impression i7 doesn't hold much advantage over i5 for gaming performance. Would you not be better getting a top end i5 Ivy Bridge in that case?

Well to be fair I am about 25% gaming, and 75% Office, and general Desktop Computing, but I want it to be FAST, and I don't care if that costs a couple of hundred extra, though I wouldn't stump for the extreme processors to get that.

I've been looking at the new range as well, a little disappointed but not really surprised.

I think I'll be holding onto my i2700k for a while longer.

i have a 2500k overclocked to 4.7ghz, does fine for everything i throw at it and can't see anything in the next year that will change that. So I will be holding off my next upgrade for Broadwell, by then i hope there will be bigger  gains on what i have now, as well as a substantial power decrease.

Im the only one excited about Iris & Iris Pro?

graphics are 100% better then Ivy, and faster than AMD's APU in graphics.

Mobile computing is where the world in heading. The current crop of Ivy Bridge CPU's are powerful enough to run any kind of application as it is. Pushing the cores to a higher clock speed is the least of anyone's worry in today's age. It's about the battery life and graphics performance.

Not for everyone. Gamers go for performance. I am looking at a new desktop and, given that I have over 1,500 hours of video to compress, I'm definitely after throughput and clock speed over energy efficiency!

I am surprised that (as far as I can tell) there is no feature matrix comparison for Asus Motherboards. I tend to stick to Asus only, but I have heard Gigabyte are also good. I was thinking I'd be keen on Bluetooth, dual Lan, at least 6 USB3 Ports, (Though I want front access to USB3 so I think I need a new case). I don't need WiFi, since I have Gigabit LAN at my desk, I don't need onboard graphics. eSata would be a bonus, and I want lots of 6Gbps SATA Connectors.

I'd like to stick around $350-400 (Or less) for the motherboard.
