Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone knows what can be done against DDoSing (both lawfully and in repair). I play on Xbox Live and my friends who I play with have had their internet hit offline on a couple occasions. It hasn't happened to myself yet however i've only been matched once against the guy (he bridges host then proceeds to boot everyone from the game) where he booted me out.

Not sure where to go with this but what can be done about this?

I've been doing that but it's quite futile considering XBL's service in regards to this type of thing is poor. I was more leaning into terms of what my ISP will do against a DDoSer?

If you know the IP you could try doing a Whois and flicking an email off to their abuse team, it does take a significant amount of bandwidth to DDOS somebody so it's likely coming from more than one host, but if it is indeed coming from one host you can also report it to your ISP (depending on who they are) and ask them nicely to null-route the IP also.

Thanks for the replies guys. I will come back if I hear of him doing it again (I'm within a group of gamers). I'll just let you know what I know for certain.

He uses two accounts: His main and a second account (which I believe is on a separate xbox).
He bridges host onto this second account.
He has the ability (and uses this ability) to black screen the game (where he can still move around freely). He also has the ability to kick people out of the game (both of these he has done to me).
What I have also heard from my friends is that he has kicked people offline (which I believe has to be him DDoSing and which I was surprised about because as you have stated it requires a lot more resources).

So i'll come back to you next time it happens :)

DDoS are almost impossible to track down based on IP as by definition they are.... distributed??
