networkn: Went to Digitalnationz in the weekend and had a brief play with both consoles...

The controller on the PS4 is significantly superior in my opinion both in weighting, and feel and the sticks feel much nicer. I am vaguely contemplating the idea of cancelling my pre-order of the X1. (I have both on order)

Ohhh that is intriguing. I really thought that would be a plus on the Xbox side of things just by looking at the two. I'm in the other boat I'm yet to preorder either console mainly because none of the release games really jump out and grab me. Have you preordered any games for them?

Yup I got Watchdogs and Assassins Creed

As both those games are on the upgrade scheme it would make sense to get them on this generations console and pay the upgrade fee, it might even work out cheaper and then you can sell your PS3/360 copies.

There is a best buy upgrade scheme I see mentioned online a bit, but I've not seen anything relevant to NZ.  If there was a way to pre-order for current gen, and get a next gen upgrade via download I'd be in for that, so if anyone has links to information about that'd be awesome.

Warning: reality may differ from above post

you can either get a physical copy, which comes with a code to redeem at the special price. if you have get the PS3 physical copy, you need to keep the disc and put it in the PS4 when playing the PS4 version to authenticate.

or if you get the digital copy off the PSN, when the PS4 launches the game will be at the special price in the PS Store

So still no word on whether Sky will be able to be routed through X1?

While I still do the majority of my gaming on a PC I still think there's always room for a console as well. I'm not rushing out to buy either console, I'll wait and see how they go and so far the games they'll have on release don't really appeal. Plus there would be nothing worse than another RROD pandemic plaguing consumers.

What are peoples thoughts on Sony's decision to not play CD's or MP3's and worst of all no DLNA? I really was quite shocked when I heard that, I could live without the first two but without the ability to stream from my PC I definitely won't be retiring my PS3 anytime soon.

The indications are that Sony will add it in Update 2 which will be due out either late Dec 2013 or Early 2014. I am a little surprised but my gut feeling is they are both rushing these consoles out the door for the holidays. I expect some major functionality changes in both over the next 12 months.

Yeah but I have a feeling they might also be pushing some of their other services like Music Unlimited. Not too worried though as I've told anybody who gets upset about no backwards compatibility, I've still got my PS3 so everything I can do now I'll still be able to do when the new consoles release.

I actually just canned my ps4 preorder because of the Watchdogs and Drive Club delays. A bit gutted to do it but they were going to be my launch purchases and realistically it's hard to justify $600 now when I have some ps3 games which will tie me over. And I still love the price of the consoles and it's not like they will go up. I will get one early next year I think.

networkn: Still trying to decide what to buy as my release day game for the xbox one. Ryse Son of Rome or Assassins Creed Black Flag.. Any recommendations?

For me, I am getting Forza and Ryse.  Forza because I like car/bike racing games, Ryse because it looks interesting.  I don't like FPS games on consoles, it makes the games a bit gimmicky and I found Assassins Creed on the box annoying due to the inconsistent and overloaded control layout.

Was surprised when I saw yesterday there are still pre-orders for the xbox one from mightyape, when the PS4 pre-orders run out way back in July. wonder what the ratio of PS4:xbox is.

Who knows as it also comes down to supply. But my guess would be 2:1 judging by the opinions circling the net.
