Just purchased a xbox one, slowly getting the hang of it. It has a some really nice features and very very quiet. Shame about the voice commands or lack there of in NZ

"Shame about the voice commands or lack there of in NZ"

Yup it seems that "the complexity of solving for languages and accents" is way to much for this platform at the moment. However they are building a new platform with a ~10 year cycle in mind .. im sure they can get it operational in the next 7-9

Have not tried it myself however im sure I have read others who have reset the unit and set their zone to USA etc, to try out the voice commands while using a bit of a "twang" to their voice.

Maybe give it a go If your feeling keen and want something todo this long weekend ?!?!?!

My suggestion with the voice commands is get onto the Microsoft Xbox forums and make an issue out of it.

It is quite disappointing that it doesn't work - the voice commands is what the Xbox one was really about (and gesture control).   We keep getting silly updates for the XB1 that really don't do anything - yet most of the major features such as voice and TV support don't work.

I would be interested to know what thoughts any NZ MS staff half on how we can get NZ represented on the Xbox scene.

The voice is disappointing but not a deal breaker for me. I have TV running through the device which frees up a HDMA slot.

Forza 5 is great just the track walls are too close, or it could be my skill level sucks, I suspect the later. I haven't tried Titanfall yet.

Can you plug in your sky decoder to the slot?

Cool just tried it, only issue I guess you need xbox turned on all the time. Thanks for the info, will keep this in mind if I need another HDMI slot

Change your system region to US. Cheaper digital games and voice commands work (UK region picks up the kiwi accent the best right now until NZ support is added). Better off to change your MS account to US to be honest. Everything for Windows Phone, Xbox etc is cheaper in the US digital store. You can permanently change your MS account to US or any other country via Xbox.com website once every 3 months.

As I understand things if one change ones system to a different country, local music and videos cannot be purchased, unless the change is also applied to the Microsoft Account as well. Doing so, I understand one will lose any current purchases (I suspect just music and songs), and of course, one will lose any new purchases if one needs to change the account back.

What I do is just change the Xbox location to UK (I can't do a US or Australian accent), play the game I want and then change it back - however, it does require a full reboot each time the setting is changed.  Xbox voice also means I don't need to use the controller, which is useful if I want to use Skype if I am on the other side of the room.  You may find on the forums a generally request for the XB1 to support  ethnicity+region rather than just location.

By TV support I meant actually controlling the TV/decoder - which was a promised feature (not just plugging one in).  I would have thought XB1 would have supported HDMI-CEC (which most TVs and recorders do) but apparently not.  I sometimes plug in my Apple TV, however the response to changes on the remote are too slow for it to be useful.

I have had my xbone set to the US since day one. The voice commands are gimmicky they don't work all that well.

did you say peen instead of pain for pen?
try saying gaard instead of gord for god
and coo-ul instead of cool.
definitely don't say bear for beer.

kiwis are a hard bunch. go to england and they'll say "what language are you speaking in?" (not that one can understand the average liverpool folk)

How worth are digital games though? Wouldn't you want physical copies of the game for even less the price of a digital game? (not a rhetorical question, I'm actually curious LOL)

But yeah, sorry for digressing a little. Just wanted to know what people might think

Physical games in NZ for new gen consoles starts at $110 or above. Digital games from US store cost around NZ$75. Don't have to get up to switch game discs with digital games. Kinect does that for me via voice recognition.
