Well, thankfully the queues have come down on most oceanic realms. Sadly my main is Alliance on Frosty... so that's not happening any time soon. Guess I'll be xferring or playing alts on Aman'thul until Frosty calms down :)

Yay - no queue today!
Boo - "Character not found."

When I actually get on, I'm enjoying.  Getting on is not getting easier!  8 hour queue on Dath on Saturday and now this. cry

Hoorah! Can't complain, only lost 1-2 days due to server issues and queues.

So 10 days in, I've got both my Druid (Alliance) and Warrior (Horde) to 100 - they're both on Nagrand. The Warrior made 100 in about 13 hours of play not really questing much, I was doing all the bonus objectives and hunting treasure. Now I can take my time through the storyline with questing. The Druid is now in a full set of 620 PVP gear. I must say, I really like the gear scaling for PVP gear. It goes up to 675 in PVP which is very nice. The Warrior has some PVP gear but not a full set. I'm working on pet achievements at the moment. Finally got the Unborn Val'kyr after weeks of hunting >.> Even though I rushed through the content I really did enjoy myself. The questing feels fresh and new but the story feels familiar and I'm loving it. The zones are *gorgeous* and my Garrison is such a time sink, hehe.

So what's Ashran like on everybody's realms? On Nagrand/Caelestrasz is a total joke, completely Alliance dominated. I avoid that place like the plague, even on my Druid. There are so many design flaws with this place it's not even funny. :(

Hi Guys/Ladies,

Partner and I are looking to start playing WoW, is it worth getting into so late in the game? And what servers should we look at?

Cheers

If you buy Warlords you get a free boost for a character so that you can skip the first 90 levels so there has never been a better time to get in to WoW.

As for server, personally I would say Aman'Thul as it is one of the Oceanic servers hosted in Australia and it has not been merged with any other servers so the population is quite reasonable. It is a PvE server so you won't have to worry about other players trying to kill you while you get to grips with the game.

I am sure others here will have their own recommendations :)

Probably. Be aware that you would need to be able to download about 30 gigs of data for a WoW install. $US20 gets you one account with everything up to Mists of Pandaria with a level cap of 90. Another @US50 get you Warlords (the latest expansion) with a level cap of 100 and a free boost for one character to 90. You get the first moth play for free. After that it is $US15/month (can be less if you subscribe for longer).

You can get a trial account for free that will let you level a character to 20. Will be about the same size download at a guess.

Good luck, and enjoy if you decide to play :)

I Agree with Brum, if you're going to get a copy, get it online. I usually download it on one PC, chuck it on a HDD and copy it on to everyhting else I need it on.

Word of advice, if you don't have two battle.net accounts already, just make one. Then 'recruit a friend' to your own email address and set up another sub-account for your partner. Each account will have its own subscription and you can both play at the same time, but the cool thing is that you share mounts, achievements and neat stuff like vanity pets and toys across both accounts, rather than having to get each item for both of you. Also the recruit a friend bonus means that you will get a really sweet mount (there is a 2 person rocket which is really handy) as a reward once you've been subscribed for two months.

It'll be a little overwhelming when you get right into a level 90 character if you've never played wow before, so my suggestion would be to keep your boost and roll new toons so you guys can get used to the gameplay dynamics first. Try all the different classes and both factions to see what you enjoy most. (Hint hint Warriors and Rogues, my friend!) Once you're sure, then pop that boost on a class you love. :)

Personally I play on Nagrand (Oceanic PVE). It's linked to Caelestrasz but the population is pretty balanced. Chat gets annoying on the Alliance side and just downright wtf on the Horde side sometimes, be warned. :)

Let us know how you get on!

So the battle chest (vanilla WoW and all expansions up to and including Mists of Pandaria) just went on sale for $US5 - https://us.battle.net/shop/en/product/world-of-warcraft

A
t that price if you want to try WoW before committing to Warlords, I would recommend just buying a couple of the chests and using the 30 days free to see if you like it as your accounts won't be gimped like they are with the Starter version.

Demeter's recruit-a-friend is a very good one. Especially if you want to level together. You can try for a month and see how you like it, but get boosted experience while you are grouping.

If you decide to play for a while I would also suggest getting some kind of authenticator. Getting your account hacked is a very unpleasant experience.
