Ronsoak: My biggest take away in regards to combat is that it requires thinking and strategy unlike some games where you just need to hack about. When I wanted to kill some drowners that where above my level I died when I took them all on. So I tried to peel one off and then set the trap. Used the blast to keep them at a distance etc

You're doing well to be involved at that level already, I am still trying to get a handle on block and parry, and switching between my signs and remembering which is which!

I'm relying more on my dodge, I fail at parrying. I made the mistake of doing the tutorials on keyboard and mouse but now I switched to controller and I don't know half the controls

I am using keyboard, seriously considering a controller for the first time ever.

After about 5 hours in I have gotten used to the controls. Once you do it becomes pretty awesome.
There is a very high skill cap on combat at the higher levels of difficulty which I totally enjoy.

As to FPS. I have a GTX 960 and run with the geforce experience optimised settings, which is pretty much every thing on max (apart from the hair, which is odd).
Have adaptive v-sync on and its silky smooth at all times, haven't noticed any of the slow downs that others have mentioned and the combat itself feels very fluid.

Have put it on my SSD, put it back on the HDD for a test and got some jerky movement and transitions. So If you haven't put it there already, SSD that sucka.

Gameplay itself, love it. Can't remember the last game it took me 4 hours to hit level 2 and then spend 10 minutes agonising over a talent choice.
The narrative and seamless way it moves from quest to quest is really impressive.

I can't recall the last time I seriously considered skipping squash to play a game instead, that is a sign of a pretty decent game.

There are some balance issues with difficulty... I accepted a contract on a werewolf, found it, researched it best I could (as far as I know) but can't even defeat it on EASY mode. When his health gets down to 40% he started regenerating quicker than I can deal damage... hope they address that one in a patch.

Also found I had to drop the difficulty to NORMAL (Story and Sword) for an encounter with a Wild Hunt boss (on a quest with a witch in Velen), as he was very powerful and I was getting frustrated after 10+ attempts. I've settled on that normal difficulty for now, seems best for me now that the enemies are harder after that intro area.

Loving the game so far, but the technical issues on PS4 are pretty distracting.

I elected to buy on console rather than PC so I could play in lounge comfort on the 50" with surround, but the persistent frame-rate problems are annoying to the point that I am considering using my Game Guarantee at EB and getting the PC version instead.

As far as I know, there is no level scaling, so it is entirely possible to run into opponents and situations that are going to be beyond your current abilities...level up and come back to it - I don't think it needs a patch!

Yah I have a 106" projector and thought it would be awesome in the lounge, but because I want to play it whenever I want, I opted for my PC with a closeable door so my kids won't be exposed to it.

Indeed - Not a child friendly game!

Certainly not for my 3 and 5 years old at least :)

My daughter (3) wouldn't probably care, but my son would be upset by it, sensitive wee soul he is (Which I love about him).

I was only one below the recommended level for the werewolf quest :/ But you're right and it is some consolation knowing I can go back once I've levelled up more and beat the snot out of that werewolf once I'm more powerful hehe

quick question. Can my PC play this or is it time for an upgrade?

current build
 CPU: Core i7 920 OC @3.6
RAM:12 GB
GPU GTX780 ti

I'm abit concerned that the CPU might be a bottleneck since the GPU seems like it can handle it at ultra.

Your CPU will be fine for Ultra settings. Apparently even a 2.2GHz quad core is enough. See this article: http://www.pcgamer.com/durantes-witcher-3-analysis-the-alchemy-of-smoothness/

But you won't be able to use Hairworks with a GTX780ti without tuning a few other options down to High to maintain 60FPS.

so have you guys played the previous 2 titles first ?

I am anal in that I cannot play a sequel until finishing the earlier one(s), and I still have Witcher 2 in my 'must play next' list (which gets longer with every Steam sale...)

so will likely wait until NEXT summer Steam sale to pick it up...
