I hatched a Magby out of my very first new 10k egg last night, so I was stoked with that! I also finally got enough candy to evolve my Dragonair into a Dragonite. I had two to choose from - a 68% IV with much better CP, or an 82% IV with lower CP. I went for the latter, much to my son's disgust, but I can always get more candy to power up, whereas the IV is set forever.

I don't tend to spend much time battling gyms so I haven't been quite as diligent organising attackers and defenders. I do have a couple with mediocre IVs but a 100% defence stat that would be good to chuck into gyms if the opportunity arises. I need to rename them with suffix A and D so I know which to use for what.

@CutCutCut - you can look up the movesets here - some are better than others, but you won't know what you're going to get when you evolve your Pokemon - it's randomly assigned, as far as I know. However, when it comes to powering up, you can easily work out which are your best Pokemon. Use the in-game appraisal system to work out your IV - your Pokemon's perfection level, which is based on its scores for attack, defense, and stamina. This list will help you understand the rather cryptic appraisal messages (it's different depending on which team you're in, so make sure to click the relevant one). Next, you want to work out your Pokemon's level and IV score. For that, I like Pokeassist. Use your Pokemon's details screen to find out its CP, health points and how much candies it would need to power up, and enter them into the calculator. You also need to say if it's been powered up already. Then, tick whichever of the attack, defence and HP boxes your in-game appraisal says is your Pokemon's strongest feature (there could be more than one). Finally, select the score of that best feature from the 'best' dropdown menu. You get that info from your in-game appraisal. It's the phrase that comes up before the size. Match that phrase to Phase #2 of this chart to find out the score. Then click calculate, and the IV calculator will tell you your Pokemon's IV rating and level.

Now, if you want a Pokemon specifically for taking down a gym, go for one with a good moveset and and the maximum attack rating of 15. If you have one with max defence stats, that's good for putting into gyms to hold a slot. So that helps you decide who to power up and who to discard. I have a godly Gyarados with 97% IVs and the top moveset, so he's fantastic for anything. I also have a Kingler and a Flareon that have 100% IVs that I power up as much as I can. On the flip side, I once had a Bulbasaur with an IV rating of 6, lol. Hope that helps!

The addition I added to my naming was A (for Attack), D (Defence), H (for HP) or M (for Mix) depending on what the Pokemon's best stat was.
I found that some of my best attackers (in terms of moveset) do not have the best attack stat, and vice versa with my defenders ..

One thing I want to do is power up my Dragonite to Level 30.5, as it is currently level 30 with a CP of 2995
So close to 3k. However unless I find a wild Dratini, its another 20km I have to walk with my Dragonair (who has walked over 360km with me so far)

Jealous of your Magby find!

5 more 5km eggs at lunch time, Gen 2 baby Pokemon continue to elude me.
As a result I have turned off my PoGo Plus from notifying me about PokeStops while I sit at work (which means no XP growth) and then will head out of my way to two locations other Dunedin players have talked about to try and get eggs (4 slots open)

I know it's all RNG, but gosh darn it, I want some new baby Pokemon!

Yes, I'm about to head out to replenish my empty egg basket. My sister has hatched an Igglybuff and a Togepi - so jealous.

Over the weekend I managed to increase my baby Pokemon to 3, with hatches of Pichu and Magby
On Friday/Saturday I avoided collecting any eggs from any area I normally frequent and went out of my way to visit PokeStops in other locations. Because all the 5km eggs got mixed up, I have no idea if this plan was successful or not ..

Back to 9x 5km eggs ...

There does seem to be something to the theory that the location an egg was collected at could contribute to the contents. I got a Smoochum this morning. My hatch rate for new Pokemon has been surprisingly good. I'd say I've hatched less than 30 eggs in total and now have Magby, Igglybuff, Pichu and Smoochum.

I'm anticipating an app update and some kind of Christmas event on Wednesday/Thursday. The last two events started the Wednesday before the day of the particular holiday, and the app is normally updated fortnightly (last on 7 December) so fingers crossed we get some kind of extra spawn/stardust/candy type reward. I would be surprised if Stantler didn't feature. It's a reindeer! I'd really like to see additional ice-type spawns (need a Dewgong). There have been extra spawn points added in the last few days. My street has regained the spawn point down in the creek that used to produce Magikarp every few hours, as well as the odd Dratini. Suddenly it's back, and so far I've caught about 10 Magikarp and a Dratini from it. There's another close to it that's spawning Psyduck, which is also the return of a previous one (both originally disappeared after the daily bonus mega-spawn event finished and the spawn points were all changed). I hope they're back to stay. They've been sorely missed. Well, maybe not the Psyduck one.

Aren't we technically in an "event" until the 29th?  With the Xmas Pikachu?

Yes, but I don't think it's the only one. A recent statement from John Hanke said "We’re excited for December because we have a few new experiences and in-game events planned for you before wrapping up the year." That suggests to me there's more to come than just a few new Pokemon in eggs and a Pikachu with a hat. At least, I hope that's the case, or Christmas will be a bit of a let-down when compared to Halloween and Thanksgiving. A few people have argued that not everyone celebrates Christmas, so it won't have a big event, but even fewer celebrate Thanksgiving and that didn't hold them back :o) I guess time will tell!

So who has been collecting their free single use incubators since the event went live on Boxing Day; and anyone seen any increase in babies coming from eggs received since the 26th?

While I haven't hatched as many eggs between the 26th and now as I have since I cleared out my eggs when babies were announced, I haven't hatched another baby since.
More 10km eggs though, which have been very helpful (as have a couple of 2km and 5km - 5km are generally just XP and candy/stardust producers now)

My baby hatch rate has been about the same as pre-event. I think I've had 1 Igglybuff and 1 Pichu out of about 15 eggs. I did hatch a Seel today, which I was delighted with because it finally gave me enough candies and a decent Pokemon to evolve for my first Dewgong. That leaves me with just Charizard, Muk and Kabutops to go for my Gen1 Pokedex. I'm walking my Grimer and expect to catch enough Charmanders during the "starter spawn" event starting on Saturday, and I only need about 4 more candy for Kabutops, so I'm almost there. Next task is to get some better evolutions. Some of mine are wild catches with terrible CP and bad movesets, so I'll start concentrating on improving those while I wait for Gen2.

Last night I managed to hatch a Togepi, which excited me quite a bit.

As a result, it is now my buddy as I have 150km to get the 30 candies required to evolve into Togetic.

Just need to get a Smoochum now (have 1x 10Km egg on the go at the moment)

Togepi has eluded me, sadly. Both my son and my sister have one. *jealous*

Managed to get another at lunchtime, only 10 candy but that is 50km less I have to walk. Hoping for a better one though as these two are both only 67-81% IV range

Yeah, I've noticed that the IVs of hatched Pokemon are not as good as they used to be.
