I'm anticipating a big update in the next week or two to do with the gym system. I've been holding off powering up anything or deleting anything until I know what that does to the game meta. Hopefully they address the Go+ connectivity issues too. They did something over the weekend that stopped spoofers sniping, but it broke the game and everyone got softbanned, which was quite amusing. They rolled it back pretty quickly - the two Niantic reps at Silph Road were very responsive and communicative throughout, which bodes well for the future. I took my son to the beach and we lured up a couple of stops. Got a nice range of spawns but nothing amazing. His best catch of the last week or so was the incense Larvitar he spawned at the Domain, which was a beast in both CP and IV. I'm calling it now - Gen3 within the next 10 weeks.

Game changes I'd like to see:

Replace Nanabs with a new berry to double your stardust take - I find I rarely use the Nanabs except on Zubats and Ledyba
Alternatively they could make more mons zip around the screen - much less preferred I'm sure but it would make Nanabs more useful.

Wouldn't mind a 5th potion between Super and Hyper to restore 100HP - a revive gives you 50% health meaning 50HP isn't enough while the Hyper and Max potions are overkill and somewhat wasted.

Put Evolution items in the store for 50 pokecoins. Some people have terrible luck getting the same item so would be nice to get round this.
Get Incubators to spawn from Pokestops on some basis - either random or once a fortnight/month maybe.

I'd love to be able to do candy swaps - I've got 500+ useless Murkrow / candies, and would be happy with a scaling swap system for say 5-10% of that number of another candy type.
Maybe a "wildcard" candy type that can be used for any evolution / power up.

Gym changes I'd like to see:

Upon defeating a Gym defender, being able to swap out Pokemons before the next battle begins.
Too often I find my winning pokemon taking unnecessary damage and /or dying as I switch types at the start of each new battle.
I've found a new appreciation for revives all of a sudden! And the value of running away from the battle.

I don't have any problems gym battling now that I have a decent attack roster, but prior to say L25 I didn't bother much as the Gyms are pretty much dominated by 2.5K+ Dragonite / Gyarados / Vaporeon /Rhydon / Blisseys / Snorlax / Tyrannitar
And you needed a good lineup of (mainly) ice/electric/water/fighting to make a decent dent in the prestige.

So I wonder would more lower level / casual players get into Gym battling if there were some limitations on the defender types to increase the variety and CP levels?
Gyms might turnover more often, but you could balance that with a decrease to the 21Hrs needed to collect the defender bonus - maybe 10 hrs or so.

My 2 Cents

I'd love to see something that encouraged a more diverse set of Pokemon for use in battle. It's so boring to see gyms full of the same 6-10 Pokemon, while the rest of the 'dex is essentially useless except for collection value and perhaps a bit of prestiging. I think determining a Pokemon's position in a gym by CP is terrible, because it means everyone only puts in those that can be powered way up. Perhaps using the Pokemon's level would be a good alternative, and maybe making it so that there could only be one or two of any single type in a gym. Suddenly all those useless candies would become valuable again. I agree, being able to get a double stardust catch would be great. I'd love a berry to do that.

On the to do list for a while was to try Pokemon Go and the PoGo Plus on another device aside from my Nexus 4 and 5X.

This morning I set up a work borrowed Samsung J5 Prime, downloaded Pokemon Go, connected the PoGo Plus and locked the screen. Everything worked as it should, no random red lights/vibration and it detected Pokemon and Stops without any hesitation.

The phone is however running Android 6 which is different to the operating systems I am running on the Nexus 4 (Android 5.1) and Nexus 5X (Android 7.1.2)

The Niantic rep over on Silph Road has acknowledged the issue and said they're actively working on it, which is something, at least. Interesting that the version of Android seems to make a big difference. It's almost impossible to connect on my son's Huawei ShotX which I think is running 5.1.

Oh, there's loads of chatter on Reddit about evolution items fairly pouring out of Pokestops today - people are reporting spinning 15 stops and getting 3 items. I'm keen to head out later and see what happens.

Interesting, I have been following those two reps but did not see anything about acknowledging the issue.

When playing on the J5, one issue I did note was that the alignment of the berries and balls in their respective menus when battling a Pokemon is off, and the names of each ball and berry is not present ..

The comment from NianticGeorge was crossposted from r/pokemongo, I think. He apologised for taking so long to acknowledge everyone's messages.

Finally found it ..

I see the app is being updated to version 0.63.1 sometime soon. I am forever hopeful that this fixes my Go Plus connection issues, but I expect to be disappointed rather quickly

Installed the new APK on my phone last night and then reset all connections with the GoPlus

This morning I was very surprised that the Plus was doing what it was supposed to do, with my Nexus 5X while the screen was locked - telling me where Pokemon and PokeStops were.
However things eventually started failing and I quickly came to the conclusion that the longer the app was open and the Plus was connected, the less notifications I got from the Plus.

This was confirmed on an hour lunchtime walk.
First 10-15 minutes things were pretty good, but eventually the lag between button presses was a city block (about 300m) and then it eventually started missing everything (single vibration, red light)
While the screen was left on, everything was pretty good.

So sadly, as expected ... the newest app version has not fixed the Plus ...

I'm using the latest version of the app and I've found that my Go Plus is much worse in this version. Previously it was working ok but with this version it can't seem to stay connected for more than a few minutes. I'll connect it and turn my phone screen off, then 5 minutes later turn the screen on and see that it's no longer connected.

iPhone?

After doing more testing with my Nexus 5X and the PoGo Plus, I went back to using the borrowed Samsung J5 Prime for all of my GoPlus requirements
For some reason it just works; although someone has recently pointed out that Android 7 is not offically supported by the app or the GoPlus .. though Android 7 has been out since September 2016

Finally got around to taking screenshots of the ball/berry screens

On the Samsung J5 Prime I do not get the name of the ball or berry under the item: https://imgur.com/a/wPrLw

Nexus 5X I do: https://imgur.com/a/XlQTv

Any other user here see the same issue?

No, Nexus 5X. But since writing that earlier this morning it has now stayed connected, so it looks like it's just being flaky.

Might be the battery - I've read reports that the "low battery" icon is notoriously unreliable and doesn't always come up when the battery needs changing. I've taken to carrying a spare and a little screwdriver around in my handbag.

Ah, good point. I've only changed the battery once so far, so it's probably overdue for a change. Thanks for the pointer!
