Just in case, I changed my batter a day after 0.63.1 came out.

Made no difference to my Nexus 5X performance.

New event starts around 8am 19/5 (New Zealand time) and lasts for a week

Official blurb from http://pokemongolive.com/en/post/adventureweek2017

Trainers,

Back in December, we collectively walked past the equivalent distance of Earth to Pluto and now, we’re on a journey past the edge of the solar system! As of May 11, the Pokémon GO community has traveled more than 15.8 billion kilometers, and more adventures still await…

Pokémon GO was developed for people to easily experience classic Pokémon gameplay on their mobile device and catch Pokémon in the real world. As a result, every day, people around the globe go outside, explore the world around them, make some new memories, and get some exercise along the way. We’d love to honor the memories created so far, and our collective journey yet to come, with the Pokémon GO Adventure Week celebration from 1:00 P.M. PDT on May 18 to 1:00 P.M. PDT on May 25, 2017.

To help you stock up for your upcoming adventure, more items will be awarded from every PokéStop you visit, and Poké Balls will be 50% off in the in-game shop. Your Buddy Pokémon is also in the adventuring spirit and will find Candies four times as fast for the duration of the celebration. Whether you’re exploring your neighborhood or an exotic new location, make sure to watch for Rock-type Pokémon such as Omanyte, Kabuto, and their Evolutions. Keep an eye out—maybe you’ll even spot Aerodactyl!

Last but not least, you'll notice an all-new avatar item has been added to your wardrobe—the Explorer’s Hat! Once Adventure Week begins, grab your new hat and head out on your journey.

We’re excited to see where Pokémon GO takes you this week. Document your journey with the Pokémon GO AR camera, post your photos on social media using #PokemonGO! As you embark on your adventures, remember to always be alert and aware of your surroundings when playing Pokémon GO and be respectful of the communities and locations in which you play.

—The Pokémon GO team

Quarter buddy candy!! I need a minimum of 88 candy to evolve another Larvitar into Tyranitar, but would then need 68 more candy to power up from Level 20 to Level 30
163 candy @ 1.25km per candy = just over 200km

Rock types - I hope that means more dual rock types, like Larvitar .. I really hope Dunedin is not just full of more Sudowoodo (already enough to be found)

Yeah, I'd be disappointed if we just got loads of that silly fake stick :) I have enough candies for Tyranitar, but not enough to get a separate Pupitar for my living dex, so I'm keen to get more of those, but first I want to get my Mareep over the line - just 6 candies to go. I also could do with walking a Machop, since my only Machamp is a useless one I caught in the wild. I have loads of good IV hatches but not enough candies to evolve any of them. I'm actually most excited for the increased Pokestop drops, since the grass event cleared me out. Oh, and Omanyte, since my best Omastar got a terrible moveset. I might do a lucky egg evolution tonight to clear out all my Pidgey and free up some storage space.

My only Omastar got the best moveset (at the time, it may not be now) and area I currently walk my dogs is a Omanyte nest so plenty of candies. Would look at doing another evolve in order to get rid of the gender shadow, but maybe I will luck out and get a wild one.

I currently have two Machamps and again for first evolve got the best moveset (at the time, it may not be now) .. and my second I didn't care what moveset it got

More Geodudes would be good as I want another Golem that has better moves, as would more Kabuto

Last night after putting it off for so long, I decided to invest some stardust and candies into some favourite Pokemon to take them from roughly Level 20 to Level 30 (meaning around 75k stardust and 68 candy per Pokemon). Aside from one Snorlax and one Vaporeon, none of the leveling up will benefit me in terms of having high level defenders to sit on top of the gyms, but it may give me some more attackers when the primary attackers have already battled and I haven't yet used a potion/revive.

Went from 2.5 million stardust to 1.4 million (was aiming to stop at 1.5 million, but things happen)
I still have a bunch of Gen 2 Pokemon to powerup, but now have to wait for my stardust level to climb again.

I've never hit the million startdust mark, so you're still way ahead of me! I'm sitting on my meagre supply until I see whether the upcoming gym rework does anything to the movesets.

How's the event treating everyone. Since Friday I have managed to get 100 candies for Larvitar with a combination of catches/hatches and a lot of walking (even in the rain on Saturday) and have enough to evolve my 2nd Tyranitar (but still need more to get it to Level 30). Plenty of other rock Pokemon around (and oddly Slugma - who is Fire type, but evolves into a Fire/Rock type) and oddly no extra Sudowoodo.

I have to admit I'm loving the event so far. My street is full of Kabuto and Omanyte, which I normally only find in nests. I've managed to get a couple of Kabutops, but am waiting for a decent Omanyte to evolve to my third Omastar. I managed to get enough candy to evolve my Mareep into Ampharos (after about 260km walked) and it promptly got a terrible moveset. I evolved a Tyranitar with candy I already had saved up, and it also got bad moves, but I caught a fantastic Larvitar at Albany mall so I'm walking that for number two. I've caught two or three Aerodactyl, but had a 1900+ CP from incense run on me yesterday, which was disappointing. I've evolved a couple of nice Rhydon. I'm just trying to get as many good evolved Pokémon as possible before the gym rework, because who knows which will turn out to be useful?

Ouch on the terrible movesets, I have a feeling my second Tyranitar will get terrible movesets .. if that is the case then it will end up just being a gym defender (hopefully on top to be protected by the rest of the gym defenders)

I actually had the chance to use some of my new attackers today as I was able to attack a gym opposite work due to GPS drift and it auto selected different Pokemon over the normal crowd for me.

Local map got hit with 95% of all the accounts being "shadowbanned" so they are only showing commons on the map.

Rather annoying, as it means no more looking to see where the Mareeps/Larvitars and Dratini's are, in order to see if I want to travel to get some much needed candies.
95% of the time I just look at the map as travelling to "x marks the spot" was not suitable ...

Yes, the Auckland map is also down. I tended not to use it to find individual Pokemon, but I liked the ability to identify nests so I could decide where to base my weekend expeditions. I guess the local sightings Facebook group will have to suffice.

I am closing in on my Larvitar candy; a week ago I had 37 candy and now I have 176
24 more to go until I reach 200 candy and then I can do an evolve + powerup.

Dunedin map is back up (I think the Auckland map is run by the same person); and I was able to get a few Larvitar/Dratini spawns with it and travelling to work this morning the GoPlus actually got me a Larvitar as well.

Have you noticed that 100 coins in the shop is currently "on sale"; from $1.49 to $0.99 - I have a feeling I should purchase a few while on sale, since it is currently cheaper than getting the 550/1200 coin bundles (and getting coins from gyms is a long slow process .. which is the point ..)

I am sending you good moveset vibes for your Tyranitar! I did pick up a few of the 0.99c Pokecoin bundles for my son the other day. A strange move - now I have a load of 0.99c transactions on my credit card!

Well it worked! I managed to get a second 91% Tyranitar with Bite and Stone Edge, then powered up to Level 30 at CP3113

On Thursday after gaining enough candies for Larvitar I switched out my buddy to Chansey after using all of the available candies I had to evolve a Blissey and take it to Level 30; managed to get 8 candies during the walk and decided to carry on to make sure I have 32 candies - at which point I will move either to Snorlax, Mareep or Larvitar ...

Had an interesting experience with the game today; since app version 0.59.1 was released I have had terrible trouble playing the game via the PoGo Plus connected to my Nexus 5X with the Plus not detecting stops/Pokemon and randomly flashing red all the time. Every update I get hopefull that they have fixed the issue but it never comes.

As a result of this, I took a work phone (Samsung J5 Prime), downloaded Pokemon Go and connected the GoPlus to it. The phone was getting its internet connection via WiFi tethering to my Nexus 5X and just worked as the Nexus 5X had done before the app version 0.59.1 broke everything.

Today on the way to work, my Nexus 5X turned itself off and now will not turn on - a known issue of the Nexus 5X called bootlooping
As a result of this, I took my SIM card out of the 5X and put it into the Samsung J5 Prime and at lunch time went out to play Pokemon Go with the PoGo Plus

Almost immediately, all the issues I had on my Nexus 5X where on the Samsung J5 Prime; it was randomly flashing red, it was not picking up stops or Pokemon and generally was being a disaster. Just like with the Nexus 5X, keeping the screen on generally resolved the issues but at the cost of battery life.

Coming back to work, I turned on a second Samsung J5 Prime and transfered my SIM card from the first J5 to this new one. On the second J5 Prime I turned on mobile WiFi tethering and connected the first J5 Prime running Pokemon Go to the second J5 Prime (getting confused yet). I went out for a test walk around the block and the J5 running Pokemon Go and the PoGo Plus just worked ...

Based on this testing, running the game over WiFi is the way to go as something is getting in the way when the game is run over 3G/4G data connection ... what though I have no idea.
