No one talking about Legendaries, the bonuses or the **** storm that was Go Fest in Chicago?

Participated in 8 raids yesterday - 4 Articuno and 4 Lugia and completed 6 of them (not enough people at 2 of the Lugia raids)
Sadly didn't manage to catch any of them afterwards (though managed to get a significant number of rare candies and some more Fast and Charged TMs)

I don't think I will be able to do many (if any) Legendary raids during the week, so in order to not waste the free pass shall be looking for some nice easy Level 1's :-)

Took advantage of the double XP (as well as all the other bonuses) to lucky egg evolve many of the trash Pokemon I had gathered in the last week or so, taking myself to 2.5 million XP into Level 38, 500k to go until Level 39

Yeah, GoFest was (some would say predictably) a disaster. I am stunned that Niantic did nothing proactive to ensure the network wouldn't get overloaded. Apparently one Chicago native was overheard saying they couldn't even get service in their office on a normal day, so goodness knows how Niantic thought they could get away with packing 20,000 people into a park and not have any issues. We got up early to watch the live stream and the whole thing left us feeling utterly deflated. And then the legendary raids popped (while I was in the shower, rather inconveniently) so we ended up rushing out without lunch and doing quite a lot of raids. We had such a big group we split into 3 at one point (tried to make it team-based to maximise the ball rewards), but then it got tricky with about 22 so too many for one group but not enough for two. We did seven in total and I came away with two Articuno. My son, who seems to have insane catch luck got a Lugia and three Articuno, two of the latter were first-hit critical catches. I rubbed his head for luck and promptly critical caught my second Articuno. This morning I made a Lugia raid after dropping him at school and managed to catch it on about the second to last ball. One of our group did 13 raids yesterday and came away empty handed. My street, which normally has 10 spawnpoints scattered from one end to the other, currently has about 20 or more. They're everywhere. Including several extras on the creek (please, shiny Magikarp, be there). I haven't had a chance to take proper advantage of them yet, but I did do a mass evolve with two eggs last night to grab an extra 280,000-ish, taking me up to 400,000 into Level 34. I just want to make 35 - everything after that is gravy. I also need to power up my Golems and Tyranitars. The level 20's die so much faster in legendary raids.

The Upper Hutt crew organised to open up a clubrooms at the local nest park at 0345.  So about 20 o so mad people (yes, me included) spent 5 very cold hours wandering round the park that we kept lured up (11 pokestops).

We all went home after the event thinking nothing was going to happen until today our time.  But we all know what happened in the early afternoon.  Lugia raid to start, then an Articuno.  For me, life then called as I had to get things done, but joined a couple more Articuno raids in the evening and managed to catch one of them.  Two more raids at lunch time in town today but missed both.

Taking advantage of double everything and boosting several of my 100%ers up as well as walking to get candy for Gen 3/4.

Just did two raids at lunch, one Articuno and one Snorlax - managed to catch both

Good to hear that others are having better luck in catching the Legendaries than I was - currently 1 for 7. At this rate, I am going to have to purchase another sale box in the store using real money since it is cheaper than purchasing as needed and you get free items as well.

I have office spawns as well, as they reactivated them for the increased spawns - and come Tuesday afternoon when the bonuses end, I'll be sad :-)

Congrats on the successful raids!

There were a group of the Auckland raiders that went to Corban's Estate in Henderson (where there are 5 Pokestops close together) and lured them all up at 4am. I was not one of them, although I did wake up extra early to watch the (non-existent) live stream. Suffice to say there were some very bleary-eyed raiders by later afternoon! They're still at it today. A bunch of them somehow managed to get a day off and they've all gone to Mission Bay. Hopefully they come back to the North Shore after school so we have enough to do a few more raids with my son before the event ends and they become rare as hen's teeth.

Via far too many evolutions to count, I finally reached level 39
Now the long hard grind begins to level 40 - all 5 million XP that is required to get there!

Yesterday I managed to catch over 300 Pokemon, which shatters my previous best record during one of the last events (with 6 hour lures) by over 150 Pokemon (my best was around 130/day)
Something like 100k stardust as well added to the pile, and am on my way back to 2 million stardust, though I have quite a few power ups that I want to do.

Walked a few 10km eggs over the last few days - 3.3km is a lot more manageable, and been getting some decent hatches - mostly Mareeps which surprises me including a 100% IV
Did evolve another Ampharos and this time got all electric moves (and in a side note, fought an Ampharos with Focus Blast in a gym yesterday - damn what a powerful move, so I might be powering up my Focus Blast Ampharos instead of using a TM on it.

Currently sitting at work with a lure on the nearby PokeStop - on Sunday I purchased one of the Great Boxes in store, and last night purchased another - the free lures are pretty handy, espy with events like this.

Now I can just take it "slowly until the next event - need to rebuild my candy supplies on many of the easy evolution Pokemon as I went belong my safe number on most of then in order to squeeze in that extra evolution!

Prior to lunch I evolved what I could and transferred the rest in order to make the most of the final few minutes of the event; at lunch I went out and caught a bunch more stuff and participated in another raid (won the raid, failed to catch) and when I got back to work did a test and saw the event had not yet ended. So did a bunch more evolutions and transfers and then called it quits.
Only then to read via Pokemon Go Twitter that the event had been extended for a further 72 more hours (ending midday 28th July New Zealand time)

As a result, my goal is stardust and candy accumulation (via catching and egg hatching) for the remainder of the event - no more evolutions unless I really have enough candy ..
And for the first time since the game began, I may need to purchase some more Pokeballs as I am struggling to keep more than 50 regular balls in my bag (have plenty of greats and ultras, but as the PoGo Plus doesn't use those ...)

And I have to catch a Lugia ...

This event may kill me with the stress, lol. I've been to four raids today, didn't catch a thing. I got home from the first three, went "thank goodness it's over" and promptly saw the tweet about the extension. I'm going to try to get all the way to L35 before Friday. My street looks like some kind of Pokemon riot is going on, so I'm going to try really hard to drift to the Pokestop as much as I can and grab as much stardust and candy as possible. I spent two charged TMs this morning on my lone Lugia and my best Articuno to get them top movesets (Extrasensory/Future Sight and Frost Breath/Blizzard) and then powered them up most of the way to L30.

I note Articuno is a limited edition - Pokemon Go announced he wouldn't be sticking around for long, so I'm pleased I have a few. They'll be great for my attacking squad if Dragonite becomes a raid boss. I was pretty light on decent ice-type attackers up until now. I bought two of the middle boxes at the beginning of this event, and one of the smaller ones the other day. Might have to shell out for one more before Friday, at this rate.

If you have started down the spiral of using real money to pay for stuff, then it is so easy to "justify" using more to purchase those special raid boxes and/or incubators in an event like this in order to "maximise" your benefits (ie, more candy, stardust, legendaries etc). I was going to purchase more incubators, but all my egg drops since clearing out my eggs have been 2km, and there is no way I am putting those in incubators as 700m to walk is almost trivial - in the last 3 hours at work I have hatched 3 2km eggs thanks to drifting.

Did another Lugia raid last night - 12 of us there and all went through at least one lineup of 6 Pokemon before defeating.
Again, great or excellent/curve/golden razz throws - jumped out after the first shake (and sometimes with lag, it looked like no shake) and I failed to capture (being Instinct I typically only get 5 balls, only once have I received gym control bonus)

Currently 1 for 7 on Articuno raids and 0 for 3 Lugia raids ...

Yeah, I've not bothered buying incubators because I am managing to drift off most of my eggs in the infinite one during the evening, and most of the hatches are rubbish anyway. I don't mind paying for raid passes and lures. My average spend per week is maybe $10 at most, which is pretty meagre as an entertainment budget compared to most of my peers. It's well worth it for the amount of enjoyment I get out of the game. My main requirement at the moment is to power up my best attackers for Moltres (available from next Monday) and Zapdos (from the Monday after that), and I can't buy stardust. Better get grinding!

Did a Lugia raid this morning on the way home from the school run. There were only 10 of us and the darn thing had hydro pump. We didn't think to all quit and re-select our teams without Tyranitars, so we got hammered. Everyone was on their second team and it only went down with 2 seconds left on the timer. Very stressful! Thankfully I did catch it. I think it was my 9th Lugia raid and only my 2nd capture. IV was crap, but at least it had Dragon Tail and Future Sight right off the bat, so I'm happy.

I did 2 more Lugia raids yesterday; won both (just) but once again came away without a Lugia
Do not expect to do any further raids today due to the weather - phones do not like water :-)

Last night after the raids, and had emptied my bag of all the excess Pokemon caught yesterday, I took the spreadsheet I had created a few weeks ago and went through powering up some more (mostly Gen 1) Pokemon to level 30. I then did something I didn't think I would ever do - I took 45 rare candies and converted them into Larvitar candies and then took my Level 30 Tyranitar and powered him up to Level 35. I am now out of Tyranitar candies and all the the powering up I did used up around about 700k in stardust.

I am now looking at what other Pokemon would benefit from being powered up past level 30 - it costs 62k in stardust and 64 candies to go from level 30 to 35, so it is a large commitment.
Due to significant shortage of candies for Tyranitar and Snorlax (along with maybe one or two more key Pokemon), I may have to limit the power up to one or two levels ...
I also do not want to go under 1 million stardust ..

I read that Lugia and Articuno aren't really worth powering up (particularly Lugia) so I think your rare candies were well spent on Tyranitar, since it's so very useful in a lot of the raids, and easy to dodge with due to Bite being so quick. I may well do the same. Somewhere on the Silph Road there's chat about what levels certain Pokemon max out at, in terms of DPS, so it might be worth tracking that down to see how far it's worth going with certain species. I've noticed a huge difference in survivability with 30+ ones in raids. Golem with double rock moves may be a good investment since it's going to be very useful against Moltres and Zapdos. Gyarados is looking like it'll be useful, too, and Vaporeon. Gamepress has quite a good breakdown here: https://pokemongo.gamepress.gg/raid-boss-counters My sister and I spent some time researching last night because she was trying to work out where her TMs would be put to best use.

I did use 26 (I think) candies to take my only Articuno to level 25, but I am going to have to do some more raids to get more rare candy if I want to take it to level 30 - I have 22 rare candy left and I want to make sure I always have some in the bank so to speak.

I've been using the raid list in order to figure out what is currently potentially useful in the current raid game to take past level 30, I certainly couldn't take every single Pokemon that has a place past level 30 as I feel like I need to make sure I am looking after myself for the long game as well as the short game (which means not going past a certain threshold for certain things like rare candy, stardust, specific type of candy etc etc

Golem has been one of those Pokemon that everyone says is great, YET every time I battle with one, I wish I had picked another Pokemon
But I do have a 100% with ground moves and a 82% with rock moves that will probably get the treatment past level 30 ...

I have heard about this DPS thing but haven't paid much attention ..

Remote feeding is back, however the favourite bug has not been resolved

Been reading more on catch rate calculations for Legendaries and it seems that not only do berry, curve, hit window (nice/great/excellent) count, but also gym badge and potentially even trainer level

I got a thinking about gym badges after my only successful Legendary catch - it was at a gym I had been to before, a gym I had placed Pokemon at before and had feed berries at before - still had a bronze badge, but was on my way to silver. Where as all the other attempts were all at brand new to me gyms. Sadly with only a sample size of 1, it wasn't much to go on.
