I did three Moltres raids yesterday. My first ran but I got the other two. A lot of people in our second group caught it. I'm glad I didn't watch any of the YouTuber's videos first, because all the guys I watch had a terrible time hitting Moltres, and that would have made me nervous. I think I landed every ball, although some of them weren't fantastic throws. A lot of people are using the trick where you hold your finger on the pokeball until the circle gets to where you want it, then take your finger away, and the circle will stay the same until you re-engage and start spinning. If you do that during the attack animation (when the circle doesn't show or change size) and release the ball just as the animation is ending, you hit the Pokemon with the circle size you pre-determined. I haven't tried it because I'm too scared of accidentally deploying my ball.

Practice on non Legendaries.  :-)

Oh, I have :) But for some reason, I'm paranoid that it'll go wrong when it comes to the Pokemon I really want. I've caught 14 of the 28 legendaries I've battled, so I'm not too sad about my existing catch rate. I guess once I have a couple more Moltres, I could afford to experiment a bit more!

I held out upgrading any Pokemon past Level 30 for a long time.
Now that I have upgraded a few to Level 35, I am not really sure if it makes any difference to their overall survivability ...

Did three Moltres raids yesterday, caught one (second attempt, first ball using a nanab berry) - Moltres certainly flies around all over the show and seems harder to hit

I'm not sure the difference is huge. You get extra HP along with CP but I don't know the percentage improvement. I have 4 Moltres now from 7 raids. Had one last night that was impossible to hit, but fared better today. I see Niantic has removed the base catch rates for Mewtwo, Ho-oh and the dogs from the game master file. I can't say I'm gutted. While I've enjoyed the legendary raids, they're quite stressful, and I could do with a break. I think once Zapdos goes, we might see a change in the normal raid bosses, and then maybe Gen3, just to mix things up. It would be cool to see Dragonite and Gyarados as L4 bosses, Golem and Houndoom as L3, and maybe Pupitar and Charmelon as L1 or L2 so people who couldn't get a big enough group for a Tyranitar or Charizard could still get one eventually.

In the weekend I finally got my Lugia; managed to organise a group of 10 people which was enough to take it down (oddly - previous attempts with less than 12 have failed)
When it came to entering the bonus challenge, the app crashed .. and crashed .. and crashed. Finally entered the bonus challenge on the 5th attempt and caught on the 7th ball (of 11).

Managed to get a few more Moltres as well on Sunday, ending up with 5..

Was in Wellington for work, though my plans to stay the night and walk the waterfront for water Pokemon was cancelled; ended up coming to Auckland for the night to work on Tuesday (today)
I must say that from the brief time I had catching Pokemon around the waterfront/Lambton Quay was fantastic and far surpases what I have managed to catch in Auckland - compared to Dunedin these cities are so different to what I am used to (and to each other)

Haven't seen a Zapdos raid in Auckland yet .. first attempt will be Wednesday when im back in Dunedin

Saw a Zapdos pop up in Wellington at lunch but I wasn't near it, nor had time to go see if a raid party was happening.  Will see what pops up in Upper Hutt tonight though.  Bound to be plenty of the group up there hitting them tonight.

In the weekend I finally got my Lugia

Congrats! I haven't caught any for a good week now - they've become quite sparse and I've been concentrating on the others. Went raiding on Sunday afternoon with my son and my sister to help them get a few more Moltres. I didn't really need another, so of course I caught all four we battled, plus one for my sister, who was having trouble hitting it.

Someone on our FB messenger group mentioned that the CBD had been rubbish for Zapdos spawns yesterday. There were loads here on the North Shore but my son was home sick from school with a cold, so we didn't go out until late afternoon when he was feeling a bit less tired. Did two raids. We all caught our first one, and my sister caught the second but it ran from us. It's much easier to hit - I landed every single ball with a great curved throw. Just wait until Zapdos pecks at you, then throw as it moves back into position. Ignore all the flying around the screen that it does. I don't even touch the screen until it begins the attack animation. That gives me time for two spins and a throw just before the circle reappears. Zapdos is much closer than Moltres was, too.

Managed to do two Zapdos raids on Wednesday and am so far 2 for 2 ..

After work in my home area, raids have been terrible (or non-existent), so have not been able to join in with the local crew to do anymore.

A combo of dreary, wet weather and bad timing means we've only done three Zapdos raids. Caught two, one of which is pretty terrible IV-wise. My sister has caught four from four, after her awful run with Moltres where she couldn't catch it at all (finally managed five from about twelve, with a late run of success). I hope there's a break after this batch. I need to not be on constant alert, it's making me jittery! I want Gen 3 next, but I'm not sure they're ready for release yet, since they need to sort out abilities and weather integration and such.

Based on the chatter on TSR, it seems that raids have had potions added to the pool, which in turn has significantly reduced the drop rates of things you can only get from raids - rare candy, golden razz and TMs

This comes a few days after a large post that "rare candy has ruined the game"

These reactionary changes by Niantic really annoy, especially when there are so many bug fixed that need to be addressed

I have to say I am grateful for the extra potions - I have plenty, but my son is always running low, for some reason. We've had to farm potions all week just to heal up his Pokemon from the weekend raids, and I had to buy some at the time so he could participate in the raids we did on Sunday. The drop in rare candy and TMs hasn't been completely confirmed - some people are saying there's no hard ceiling for the number of items you can get from a raid and the potions are additional, others are not. I've been chucking out revives by the score, so I wouldn't mind seeing their drop rates nerfed a bit. I've also been having to transfer rare candy to other types just to keep my storage down low enough to keep spinning Pokestops. I guess it's going to be hard to balance the drops so they don't unfairly penalise people who raid less, but also not giving avid raiders ridiculously large amounts of candy.

Anyone else experiencing "Network Error" and "Error" messages when trying to take over a gym? Seems to happen fairly frequently, especially at evening/night time here in NZ. Is it overloaded servers, or could it be mobile network problems?

There's been chat on The Silph Road subreddit that people have been experiencing this at gyms where they've done raids. Not sure what the outcome of the discussions was as I didn't read them all the way through. I think it's likely a bug.

I think its time to give up on T4/Legendaries Raids since the addition of potions to the pool.
Over the weekend (and Monday night) I did 10 raids, from that I managed to add 2 rare candies and 6 golden razz to the stockpile .. the XP gained helps on the grind to Level 40, but I can get more than enough potions and revives from normal Pokestop spins ...
To make it worse, I only managed to catch one of those Pokemon (a Tyranitar)

Articuno - seen 15, caught 4
Zapdos - seen 14, caught 6
Moltres - seen 12, caught 6
Lugia - seen 15, caught 2 <-- I really hate Lugia!

I had a few network errors at gyms, mostly worked around by forcing out of the game and trying again. Normally good for one battle
However this morning after getting lots of network errors, I started getting general error messages .. so I moved onto another gym

I haven't done many since the changes to the drops, but I'm for sure hanging onto my rare candies at the moment! I think there will likely be another correction - they've gone too hard on the potions and nerfed the other rewards too much. Lugia is my white whale as well. I'm taking it easy at the moment because my iPhone 6S is in the shop getting the battery replaced (under recall from Apple) so I'm struggling along on an old 5, which is barely managing to run the game.
