So who has been out catching Farfetch'd?

I'm glad to have finally got a couple of 82%IV specimens, but the ones I could in Japan will be a bit more special to me .. since I actually travelled to get them

Back over 3 million stardust, and now I can power up some Pokemon in order to do better at Tier 3 raids (though the timer is by biggest issue)

I caught a couple on the way to work this morning. That's all I need, I just wanted to tick them off in my pokedex.

Yup, caught dozens. Just happy to have that entry filled, even if they're not Japanese ones. I agree, the ones from the actual country will always be a bit more special - I have quite a few Aussie Kangas :)

I've been maximising the double-XP with my raid group by doing 3 or 4 legendary raids in a row with a lucky egg on. Managed 4 in 30 minutes yesterday - talk about a mad dash! We've got a system going. At the first raid we run the timer down to 30 seconds, then pop the lucky egg, do the battle, throw the first ball and then run for the car. Someone in the car catches Entei for themselves and the driver while we head to the next raid. Whoever arrives first starts the timer. Repeat until finished :) We did it with 2 minutes to spare. Nine people in two cars - any more and it gets tricky with stragglers and traffic and whatnot, because everyone has to arrive at the next raid within two minutes of the first car.

Been running a lure at work, and managed to get 82% IV (or better) male and female Farfetch'd, which was my goal for the event seeing as my best Japanese female was 69% and the male was 29%

Being back at work has also seen my Pokeball situation improve - I took over 300 to Christchurch with me, and had to do PokeStop runs/loops several time to keep me with a few dozen in my storage, forgoing capturing Pokemon some of the time (I even got down to 0 great balls and was throwing ultras at trash..)

So glad I don't have to worry about XP anymore .. I did a lucky egg evolution with the trash I had collected during the day ... and oh my god I forgot how boring it was
I know one day the level cap will rise and I'll have to grind to get to Level 45 or 50 ... but ... meh

So what are your predictions for December? I think that Ho-oh will either replace the legendary beasts in tier 5 raids, or it will appear alongside all three beasts, just like the legendary birds did with Lugia.

I also think we'll get the majority of Gen3 on December 1st. I find it suspicious that the special boxes currently in the store, which are geared around catching, are available until the 4th, but the Travel event rewards end on the 1st. Why would anyone want to buy boxes full of lures, lucky eggs and balls once double stardust and XP is finished, unless... there are new Pokemon to catch. Also, I remember that when Gen2 dropped, we had 6-hour lures (like we do now) for the Valentine's event. They were extended to cover the first week of Gen2, which arrived the day after the Valentine's event finished.

I forgot to mention... Half of my raiding crew got an EX raid pass on Saturday morning for a raid at our local hall next Sunday. Oddly, despite Niantic's announcement that they've modified the eligibility criteria so that players with more raids and high-level gym badges would be "more likely" to get passes, the only selection criteria that seems to have been used in this case is "the Valour group that did the Entei raid on Wednesday night" at that particular gym. My sister did that raid too, at the same time, with the Mystic players. All of the Valour group got invited but none of the Mystic group did. Some of the Valour players were low level with under 100 raids and just a bronze badge at that gym. My sister has done almost 200 raids and has a gold badge at that gym. Needless to say, she's pretty annoyed, and it does make Niantic's recent announcement, which seemed so promising, sound a little hollow. I can only hope they haven't instigated the new rules yet, because if they have, they're not better than the old ones.

Predictions for December - nothing

While I want to see another Generation added to the game just like everyone else, I don't expect much of anything to happen at all.

Sure this past week has been amazing with all the communication, but I am pretty sure that it will be back to status quo of nothing soon enough.

Only EX raid I am aware of in Dunedin happened on the day I was flying back from Singapore. I don't ever expect to be invited to an EX raid either, even if I follow their recent announcements and make sure I raid often at "parks"  ..

We do need one more update for Gen3 to be released (to add the final movesets), and I see that the last one never made it into the Apple app store again. The Unity update is causing major issues by the look of it. So that might delay things, unfortunately.

Well that was a surprise - Ho-Oh as a L5 raid from now until 12th December (probably 13th here)

Ho-Oh = Lugia all over again ...

1 success out of 4 attempts after work (which is better than Lugia - which took me 9 attempts to get my first)
We had 6 Instinct players - 3x Level 40, 1x Level 39, 1x Level 38 and 1x Level 36

With Brave Bird - pretty easy (actually way easier than Lugia, though my team has gotten much stronger since those days)
However Solar Beam - wiped us out at least once and I had 10 Pokemon taken out. I had issues with dodging as well (I think my frantic tapping was queuing up attacks so when I wanted to dodge I had to attack first)

Yep, Solar Beam gives us a fairly good pasting.

Mixed success in our group with I think most managing to catch at least one on day one.

Managed one Lugia raid yesterday evening (the other three L5's we went to hatched Entei). It had Solar Beam, which we knew as soon as we went into the lobby and it recommended Dragonite over rock/water types. I went in with 4 L30+ Dragonites, my powered-up Raikou and a good Zapdos and survived almost all the way through. It certainly packs a punch! My sister and son caught theirs but mine ran despite landing decent throws on all bar one attempt when I went a bit too early and the ball bounced off. I'm used to allowing for ball flight time in my throws but with Ho-oh being so much closer, I need to learn to wait for a fraction of a second longer. Lugia was my nemesis too, so I am a bit nervous!

It didn't look like Ho-Oh was going to turn up yesterday while I had time to raid, with only a mention of a L5 raid with about 10 minutes to hatch and seemingly no interest
By the time I got there, there were about 30 players there and I had about 30 seconds to join the Instinct group.

Joined, won the raid and was faced with a 97.8% Ho-Oh to catch

Once one of the other L40's caught his Ho-Oh, I gave him my phone and walked away - second to last ball he caught me it ..

Probably the best I am going to get, so I am trying to decide if I use some of the 64 rare candies I have been saving to power up .. or just wait for the off chance I can get a perfect.

Nice work.

Might as well wait though.  Not long until it goes away again.

Congrats! May as well wait until the 12th before you use those precious candies. You never know your luck! It's a shame Ho-oh didn't get better moves. He's got crazy high stats but suffers from a lack of STAB. Still a good generalist to have in your arsenal, though, especially if you're short on Dragonites. I'm waiting until tomorrow to power up my best Entei a bit. I caught a 1922 early in the month which has a 15 attack IV. I've also given Raikou a significant amount of stardust because it's super useful in a range of battles, but poor Suicune doesn't get any. I'm keeping a portion of my candy and stardust aside for if I ever get Mewtwo. I've got my silver legendary raid badge and I'm slowly working on turning all the local park gyms gold. Nothing else I can do, really, except leave it up to fate. Hopefully December will bring an increase in invite frequency and a more logical distribution pattern.

I ended the event with 3.5 million stardust, approx 900k more than I had at the start of the event (though I did use some during the event).
With the event over, I then spent around 750k upgrading a few key Pokemon to L40, others to L35 and some as far as I could go with the amount of candies/rare candies I had

As I have enough key Pokemon I don't see the need to evolve any more G1/2 Pokemon for battling purposes and have even started just using what I pick up as gym defenders rather than using army of Chansey/Blissey and others

Now to wait for Gen3
