I got an EX raid pass yesterday for 4.45 on Christmas Day. The gym it was issued for was one I've only raided at two or three times, and one of those was my first Groudon which I did the day before. We all joked at the time that it was "a Mewtwo gym" because there have previously been two EX raids there, but I don't think any of us expected it to result in an invite.

My son also received a pass, but my sister, who always raids with us (and does a lot more besides) didn't get one, despite the fact we were all in the same raid group. That's the third raid she's been at where most of the other players got EX passes and she didn't. She's L38 with double the amount of legendary raids that I have, and many more gold gyms (including at the gym where the other two raids were held where she missed out on a pass). Needless to say, she's livid. I hate that our little family raiding group has been split up like this. My son can't feel happy because his Auntie didn't get a pass.

We are seeing a pattern now, though. Just three of our local gyms seem to be cycling in rotation, and invites seem to be split between those who did a big group and people who did solo raids on different days. So we think my sister needs to raid those gyms several times a week, regardless of what the raid is, to try and get a pass. It certainly helps to cut down the aimless raiding we've all been doing in big groups all over the North Shore in an attempt to "trigger" an EX raid there. Although, I guess if we only hit those three gyms in large numbers, it will become a self-fulfilling prophecy.

I see littleheaven got an EX Raid invite this time around.

In Dunedin someone has paid for scans of the area, so I've been using it as much as I can to get the rarer spawns (when the weather is being helpful - in-game weather vs the actual real weather)
I am thinking of doing an out of town trip on Boxing Day in order to try and get those spawns that seem to be rare for Dunedin ..

Our raiding crew was absent over the weekend, and so while I did a couple of Groudon raids with other players .. it was a "meh" experience. Much rather do it with the crew ..

I agree - I've become rather attached to my raid crew. We spend most evenings chatting on Messenger when we're not out Pokehunting. I don't like raiding with random trainers because I'm not sure what they're like... have had a few experiences where people have refused to jump out if someone's game crashes, or have run off to the next raid without waiting for those still catching. It's nice to be part of a tight unit where everyone is considerate and helpful.

Well, that went a bit mental.  10:00:00 and the place just lit up.
Went for a jog a couple of blocks from work for a "morning tea break" and picked up Delibird.  Will see what else I can pick up at lunch.

Not overly fussed on the special boxes at this stage.  Will see if the Star pieces start dropping from pokestops or not.

There are Torchic everywhere here. I've only previously found one, so it's very welcome. Have also caught Spheal, Delibird, female Santachu, and my first Meditite. Haven't even left the house yet, lol.

The change in available Pokemon when they started the Ice event and added in new water/ice Pokemon was insane. During the first few weeks I was actively hunting Seedots, and the starters .. and now they are everywhere (with Torchic being the easier starter to find). Though over the last day something has changed ... not quite as easy.

Still, gave myself a nice boost to the amount of candy for when I eventually find a decent Pokemon to evolve..

I've been enjoying the extra Torchic candy. Went to Takapuna beach yesterday afternoon, while it was raining in-game but not in RL, and there were Mudkip everywhere. I'm wondering if the beach is also a nest, because they were particularly dense there, even when the in-game weather changed back to cloudy. The gym on the beach has had several EX raids so we all did a Charmeleon raid to see if we could get another pass (or in my sister's case, her first). When we'd finished catching the raid boss we found a Relicanth sitting beneath the gym, so we caught our first NZ regional exclusive. Last night I hatched a 93IV Ralts last night with 15 attack, so it's marked for evolution soon. I have enough Candy but want to do it as part of a lucky egg session. I'm creeping up on L38.

My son and I did our EX raid on Christmas Day. There were 14 trainers there - 7 Mystic and 7 Valor/Instinct - so we split into two groups. Mewtwo didn't have Focus Blast so he was easy to take down, even though a few people hadn't prepared an optimal team before they got there. I only used one battle party and was on my final Pokemon when Mewtwo fainted. One of our group got a 100IV and all of us caught it - mine was first ball. My son and I both got 87IV so we were super happy. He's powered his up as far as it will go for his trainer level (35) and I took mine up to 30 for now. Mine has Psycho Cut and Shadow Ball, which I'm leaving as-is for now. I have yet to try him out in a raid, but I believe he'll be useful against some of the Gen3 legendaries we have coming up. Speaking of which, I expect we'll see Kyogre fairly soon, and I am super excited because it's going to be a beast.

Congrats on the EX raid success; I am going to assume that I will never get to participate in an EX raid and will never get Mewtwo .. which I am fine with. Plenty of other Legendary Pokemon to use my rare candy on anyway. Did a few boosted Groudon raids on Sunday ... only caught one, and it happened to be terrible (Level 25, 69% IVs) so I am still looking .. I have 15 or so days to try and get a 91% or higher ..

From what we (my raid group) can tell, it's the same three local gyms that repeatedly get EX raids - two in Takapuna and one in Glenfield - and never on consecutive weeks. There was a concerted effort to "trigger" one in Sunnynook with large groups repeatedly raiding a specific gym in waves throughout the week, but it didn't work. So my tactic will just be to do any raid at the known gyms on weeks where they haven't had an EX raid the previous week, and hope for the best. There's a couple who really only raid the Glenfield gym and they raid there every week. Between them, they have 9 Mewtwo. They've been invited to every EX raid, whereas my sister, who was at all the same raids and has a gold badge for that gym, has yet to receive a single pass. RNG can be cruel. But, as you say, there are plenty of other legendaries and some of them will be far more useful than Mewtwo. I've been getting a lot of mileage from my Raikou.

We have 'sunny' in game today, so I am hoping that during lunch I can make it to a boosted Groudon raid somewhere - and then manage to catch one (which is often the harder part)

We have the same, but I suspect it's about to turn windy for the bulk of the day - around 24km seems to be the threshold. Our first windy afternoon netted me at 3000CP Dragonite, so I'm not complaining.

^ am I reading TSR that you got another EX raid pass?

As I mentioned in that thread, I am sure that EX raids do not get awarded to Level 40s

I'm still chugging away, collecting candies for the increased spawns and currently have 63 of the 74 available Gen 3 (76 available including the two regionals not available in New Zealand). Be interesting to see what happens with spawns when the ice event ends - will the extra Treecko/Torchic/Seedot and Meditite spawns stay as is, or will they be removed?

I would like to see some more of the water Pokemon spawn - most of those spawn spots turned in ice spawns and it will be interesting to see when the next batch of Gen 3 will roll out (and what shows up)

No, I didn't get a second pass. I did raid that gym in the last week, but my sister raided it four times, including the raid from which most of our raid crew who attended scored their passes. That's four times she's been at a qualifying raid and missed out. Meanwhile, half the passes that got awarded for this one went to spoofers. She's so brassed off.

We do have L40's in our group who have received passes. Kaye, a fellow Mystic, who has been 40 for some time and has about 35 gold gyms, was in the Christmas Day Mewtwo raid with us, and it was her second. So don't lose hope. There are three gyms within 15 minutes of my house that have had EX raids and despite concerted efforts to trigger them elsewhere, none have appeared outside those three gyms. So if you just raid daily at whichever gym you know has had multiple EX raids, you should eventually strike paydirt. One of our team got their pass from soloing a Tentacruel at one of the three gyms. Another couple live just down the road from one of the gyms and raid there weekly, and have about 9 Mewtwo between them.

I've really enjoyed the current event but I am also looking forward to normal spawns returning. I'm curious to see if the extra spawn points that appeared before the event started will remain. I have one long-standing water spawn point in my street and a second more recent one, but they've been popping out all sorts of random stuff during the event. Even today, when it's rained all day, we've had hardly any water Pokemon spawn there, bar a Lotad and a Totodile. I'd hope that they will return to spawning normal water Pokemon regularly, and maybe Relicanth or Omanyte when it's partly cloudy, or Dratini when it's windy (we used to get a couple each week). The weather feature has been interesting. My son and I went to the Auckland waterfront yesterday during partly cloudy weather and found two Relicanth. When it temporarily disappeared yesterday I was quite thrown.

Ah, I misinterpreted the comment on TSR.

We had rain when the event ended and thanks to a fellow player who lured up work, I was able to get a couple of Lotad via the lures.
So begins the long walk to get enough candy to evolve once a decent specimen is acquired.

Was able to get a Zangoose just before - I had the shadow from a random string of characters in a gym I started battling, and so it is good to fill out the Pokedex and currently have 66 of the 76 Gen 3 Pokemon available (technically 75 as Plusie is not yet available locally)

I’ve just caught my first Zangoose - two, actually. Thanks to the partly cloudy boost we’ve had this evening two of them spawned in my street simultaneously. One of each gender, which is nice.

Spent the afternoon doing raids with my son and sister and other members of our group. The last two were at the two local EX raid gyms that don’t have an EX raid scheduled next week. If passes go out tomorrow per recent schedule (bar the Christmas break) then one of them should put out. My sister has done several raids at the closest one, where she has a gold badge. Had to laugh that 21 accounts turned up to Nidoking raid for a chance at a pass. I don’t want a second invite before my sister gets one, so fingers crossed she’s finally selected.
