Awesome, but sorry you didn't manage to get one. Do you know how many people in total raided it? Our efforts this weekend were unsuccessful, but I think we had too few people. At least it debunks the "all you have to do is keep the lobby busy for 45 min" theory.

The next community day has just been announced - Dratini with a mystery move and 3x stardust. Dragon medal, here I come!

I wonder if there will be shiny Dratini? This time I'm going to set an alarm so I don't miss it!

I am really looking forward to the Dratini event and hope that they are easy to come by as Pikachu was; like others I need to complete my Dragon badge (even though Gen 3 introduces more dragons)

Yes, I would LOVE shiny Dratini! A gold dragon badge will increase the catch bonus for the upcoming legendary dragon types (which may have factored into their choice of Pokemon for this event).

LOL, my first couple ran on me. I have a Nosepass and a Whismur so far. Best catch of the day, however, has been a weather boosted 15 attack Treeko. I finally have a good Sceptile candidate. Mewtwo raid later. Fingers crossed we all catch it.

I don't know these new Pokemon at all, but have so far managed to get a few of the newly released Pokemon; Whismur, Loudred, Nosepass, Aron and Anorith

Compared to the release of Gen 3.1 and 3.2, sightings have been quite rare.

Weird to see Aggron as a raid boss so quickly, semi devalues racing around catching many Aron's

I've caught a few Aron, Numel, a Cacturne (I just call him Cactus Man), and several Whismur which seems to be the Pidgey of this generation.

Managed to do an Aggron raid after work yesterday, someone from my team was there and managed to get a 100%
Weird to be able to get it so easy, I figured I would be walking many a KM with Aron as my buddy to get enough candy as I did with Tyranitar.

Based on scans of Dunedin, it seems that quite a few Pokemon are going to be a challenge to get without the help of nests and/or eggs - Numel, Camerupt, Trapinch, Vibrava, Flygon, Cacnea, Cacturne, Lunatone, Solrock, Lileep, Cradily
Baltoy and Anorith are rare, but do seem to be around

Nice ploy by Niantic to get people to purchase incubators by advising that all eggs picked up since 10am 24/1 (NZ time) only contain Gen 3 Pokemon

Aron has been in a nest near me already so I've got over 50 candy already.  Seems Rattata common currently.

Got a few Whismur, Numel and Nosepass.   Picked up a Baltoy and an Anorith.

Haven't really gone hunting as yet other than my evening walk last night going in a different direction than usual in order to grab one or two new things.

Seems like Lunatone and Solrock are the Seviper and Zangoose of this drop.  So grab Lunatone when you can.

The eggs, while hatching Gen 3 only, aren't seeming to be anything useful.  Still waiting for an Azurill.  Was only waiting for that plus a decent Feebas to walk/evolve from Gen 3.1 and 3.2.

So far I have Nosepass, Whismur, Cacnea, Aron and Numel. I'm in no hurry - as soon as I have them all I'll be bored again so it's nice to take it at a sedate pace. My favourite Gen3 so far is the 98IV L30 Gardevoir that I evolved from a Ralts I stumbled across at a local park. I'm looking forward to using it.

I got my second Mewtwo last night. I feel pretty guilty, since I got the invite from a raid I did to try to help my sister get an EX pass, and she missed out again. My son also caught his second one. Mine was 91IV with 15 attack and Confusion/Focus Blast. My first had Psycho Cut/Shadow Ball, which is useful in quite a few upcoming raids. My new one will be used for clearing Blissey and Snorlax from gyms. The EX system makes me so mad. If Niantic would just tell us outright a clear way to earn one, it would address so much of the anger and frustration in the community. This stupid lottery that seems to be geared against high-level players is just nonsense at best, and false advertising at worst.

They do tell us the "clear way to earn a pass".  It just doesn't match the reality of what actually happens.

They've been very consistent in the "be gold on the gym, raid there often" message.  But they give the passes to those who raid once.

What I meant was that it would be good to have a specific set of actions that would definitely lead to the issuance of a pass - something that makes it other than a lottery. Doesn't have to be easy. It could be to complete X raids and spin X number of stops and catch X number of Pokemon or whatever, but you could be sure that at the end of it, you'd definitely get a pass. And then they'd spawn one a week in each S2 cell and anyone with a pass could show up. If there weren't enough people, just show up to the next one instead. I don't know... anything has to be better than the current debacle.

Agreed.  But your suggestion is far too sensible.  It'll never catch on.  ;-)

Even if you had to purchase the pass for, say, 150 or 200 coins after completing the actions, that'd still be a winner.

It's interesting reading how people are playing in NZ. I've been playing since launch in Canada. It's really social, in Montréal anyway (which is always very social). People of all ages play and its not unusual to see elderly women out in a group, and lots of families with little kids, in the middle of the night chasing Pokemon. In summer anyway. People are out and about all summer long and gather in the parks and along the waterfront Pokestops late at night. Everyone talks to everyone else. When something rare is spotted, the call goes out and a few hundred people take off at a run. Police are often around watching, and I guess supervising crowd control. At one popular group of Pokestops a local church sets up a stand and supplies bottled water to anyone that wants it. It's really common to see several hundred people gathering and this happens every day/night. It's a very cheap and fun form of entertainment.

However, come winter its another story. The game sends Pokemon packing when the weather is dangerous and we have had winter storm after winter storm. On those days, even if you wanted to be out in -40C you can't play Pokemon. iPhones switch off in the cold (Apple's ideal operating temperature is above zero and that hardly happens for months here) and the game doesn't spawn anything at all if there's weather warnings.
