I managed 1 shiny on Saturday and 5 on Sunday, both days were spent in Takapuna. I've got no idea how many I caught/checked (I always forget to check the count before the event starts).

I haven't evolved any of the shinys yet, with a limited number I feel that I'll be unlucky and won't be able to get the full set. Maybe I can find someone to trade duplicates with.

I'm sitting on 2.1 million stardust.

I'm sure there will be plenty of double-ups out there for trading. My sister took a screenshot of the Bruce Mason Centre carpark at one point - I think she had 12 Eevee sitting there at once. Spawns were definitely better yesterday.

I finally got past 6.5 million stardust - it feels like everytime I have gotten close to 6.5 million, something has come along and made me use it (my last significant investment was on my Smack Down Tyranitars which I now regret as I like my Bite versions so much more (quicker attack) - probably just using stardust on the Power Up [x]times tasks ..

Only got 5 shinnies despite playing for near on 6 hours. But first three evolves were the Gen 1. Still walking the others. Also got 2x 100% which I will keep for Gen 4.

No shinies and only about a dozen eevee caught in total.  Saturday I was too busy with life and Sunday the choice was to snowboard or catch eevee.  Tough call on a bluebird day on the mountain.  :-p

Did pick up a catch 3 eevee task at the base and completed that straight away though.

Managed to drift one of my shinies far enough to evolve it into an Espeon when I got up this morning, before the exclusive (but terrible) move expired. None of my shinies are any good so I don't mind keeping them as collectables with the rubbish moveset. I really hope Niantic has something interesting for us to do between now and Yokosuka. Bar a couple of days here and there, we've basically had street spawns since June 22nd and it's getting super tedious for normal gameplay. I am wondering why they intend to reduce the amount of quest encounters people can stack, and I think it's because they want to increase the storage limit. Currently their servers are having to remember what's in everyone's queue and limiting that will free up resources to remember larger Pokemon storage instead. That's my non-technical opinion, anyway.

1 Pokemon left in the Kanto Dex; traded for a Kangaskhan today since my overseas travel plans don't feature Australia for at least a year..
I have a Europe trip booked for later this year, so hopefully I can get Mr Mime while I am over there .. and bring back a dozen or 50 spares for trading.

The notification of an update that will limit "the stack" certainly is odd, and it doesn't feel right that "the stack" is what is holding back upgrading the storage limit in the game .. but seeing as they somehow manage to introduce new bugs into the game all the time, it wouldn't surprise me if it was a direct result

Hopefully the stack limit is completely unrelated to any pending features, and just a way of limiting the amount of data they need to store because some people's stacks are getting into the 500+ range. Another two weeks of street spawns and horrible T5 raid bosses might send me into a coma.

Kudos to Niantic for app version 0.115.2; they fixed the research stack bug (even though they activated the 100 stack cutoff today and not on the 27th as promised - if affected, search NianticHelp on twitter for the special instructions needed) and they added a bunch of UI improvements to the friendship system - an indicator for when a gift has been sent, when friendship has gone up in the day (though it is hard to see - the light blue orb around the trainers head) and the ability to remove notifications about what someone recently caught. On screen notifications also got an overhaul and are now all interactive.

However it's not all good, Android now has the camera swoosh which can't be turned off, the GoPlus is still broken and the new option for turning of friends recently caught pushes the GoPlus menu down even further

They really need to find a better place for the Go Plus menu. I often toggle catching on and off so it's a massive pain to be hidden all the way down the settings page.

I can't wait to get the QOL improvements to the friends list. I am so sick of having to use a notes checklist to work out who I interacted with each day. It's interesting that the visual appearance of so many 3D models/textures changed at the same time the rest of the shiny models (except Tangela) were added to the game. I thought the visual changes to current models were due to new shaders and lighting, but someone on Reddit pointed out that it's not affecting all the models. I guess now they can drop any shiny on us at any time without us knowing beforehand.

I'm looking forward to the Celebi research on Tuesday. I hope it's challenging and takes a while to complete. My son is 800k away from L40 so maybe Celebi can be his L40 Pokemon like Mew was mine :)

I'm also looking forward to the Johto event. Finally, something to shake up the spawn pool for a while! Plus, five of them (Mareep, Murkrow, Shubbull, Houndour and Larvitar) can be shiny, and nine of them that spawn in the wild (Togetic, Aipom, Yanma, Murkrow, Misdreavus, Gligar, Sneasel, Swinub and Blissey) have Gen 4 evolutions. It would be cool if they added an extra thing that could be shiny, too. I'm picking something useless like Wooper, lol.

If you look at the schedule, there's lots coming up, actually. Hopefully the great content drought of 2018 is at an end.

20 August - Celebi Special Research and Johto event

27 August - Yokosuka Safari Zone and shiny Wingull/Global Research Challenge

8 September - Moltres Day (assuming we complete the research challenge)

15 September - probable date of the Ultra Bonus (I'm picking either a Mewtwo raid day, all three birds at once raid day, or perhaps a weekend of all three previous sets of xp, candy and stardust rewards combined)

20 September - Registeel raids end

22 September - Chikorita Community Day

I suspect that when Registeel leaves, there will be one of two things happening - either Gen 4 will drop that week, and we'll get Regigigas (which would explain why they've strung the Regis out so long), or we might get a couple of weeks of shiny Groudon before Gen 4 is released in October. Groudon started Gen 3 as the first T5 boss, so it would be a nice bookend for him to finish it. Personally, I hope that shiny Groudon or Rayquaza will return during Registeel. Anyway, once Gen 4 is out we will likely flow into a Halloween event. And something is happening at the end of November because they've moved Community Day to the 10th. Last time they moved it that early in the month was to accommodate GoFest. Maybe that's when PVP is coming?

As someone that has never played any of the main Pokemon games, I have to ask what is the purpose of PVP? I mean, if you and I put up two Pokemon to fight each other, then if you win does that mean you get to keep my losing Pokemon? Or do both Pokemon gain experience (CP?)?

I suspect that in PoGo it will involve battling for rewards, or maybe as a way to train up your existing Pokemon. Maybe they could re-instate the Ace Trainer badge along with it. I thought it would be great if you could either increase your Pokemon's CP or IV through PVP training. In the main games, you start with a Pokemon and train it up, evolving along the way as it gains experience. It builds a bond between Pokemon and Trainer because you literally raise it from a wee thing into a powerful Pokemon (I've only played a very tiny bit of Sun and Moon, but that's how I understand it works).

I also just remembered that Pokemon Let's Go is coming mid-November, so it's far more likely that there's going to be some big event around that, causing Community Day to be moved forward.

Another thought I had over the weekend was regarding the addition of the Meteor Mash move to the game's code. We haven't seen any Gen 3 community days yet, and even if we do, they normally do the rares in Pokedex order, making Beldum a good eight months away. At earliest, it could be October. But the Celebi research announcement stated that we would receive rewards like XP, useful items and Pokemon encounters. At GoFest, one of those rewards was Metagross. I wonder if we will get a Metagross with Meteor Mash as a special research reward?

Yeah that all makes sense. I can't imagine they'd want to have a situation where the winner of a battle gets to keep the losing Pokemon; too many kids would be in tears if they lost their best mons!

LOL, it would be awful! My son already cries when I catch a shiny that he doesn't have. Nobody would ever want to battle if their Pokemon were at stake. I'm fairly sure they'd never do it. In the main series games when your Pokemon get defeated by an NPC trainer you don't lose them, they just faint.

0.115.3 improved my Gotcha connection; it would connect once under 0.115.2 and then when it disconnected, that was it until I cleared every single cache I could find regarding Bluetooth and PoGo.
So far since upgrading I have been able to reconnect first time without having to go through all the stages.

Really not liking some of these colours on the models .. Blissey is pink/white, not pink/pink etc
Whenever they do one of these updates, they seem to lose any sharpness they had .. makes them look extra cartoonish

Managed to do a couple of special trades; got myself my first Unown and a Heracross in trade for a couple of spare shines I had (Roselia and Bulbasaur)
Also got a few luckies .. all average, all from recent trades - all of them went to the Professor
