As is tradition laughing

I don't think we'll see it until at least the end of next week. They need time to put the app in the Play Store, find out if there are any game-breaking bugs, put out a revised version, roll it out to iOS and then force it. That's normally a 4-5 day process. So far the info is "any time from next week until the end of the month" for go-live.

In the meantime, I hope we get something else to do in-game. A little dust/candy event would be nice to help us prepare our battlers. Helps to make catching the normal boring day-to-day stuff a bit more engaging. The T5 boss isn't exciting at all. Someone did suggest that the new boxes that popped up in the shop with a high ratio of raid passes might indicate a special raid weekend or a guest appearance in T5s by (potentially shiny) Groudon. I'd prefer the latter. Weekends are getting a bit hectic at this time of year, lol.

So, PvP is out and it sure does bring an interesting new dynamic to the game - with changes to effectiveness, stats and of course more "bugs" and general Niantic sloppiness

My big task is to go through all the Pokemon I have figure out what needs to be powered up to hit the new CP ranges (or if I power up to go over), what Pokemon benefit from having a second charge move slot opened up and then exactly what Pokemon in my party do I give that slot to (do I keep Legacy Move Pokemon as true Legacy, do I give CD move Pokemon a second move etc etc)

Meh, I find the whole PvP thing quite boring. I'll use it simply to get some free items every day but I won't be adding any new moves or trying to get a good team since it doesn't matter if you win or lose you still get the same rewards.

I believe you need wins to advance your medals, though (as I discovered after losing my first five battles yesterday, lol).

I'm really keen to have new Pokemon to look for/invest in/use. It does add an extra dimension, thank goodness. Raids and gyms are quite boring when you just trot out the same 5-6 Pokemon for most activities. I've been putting different species into a PVP spreadsheet that someone shared on Reddit that works out the actual stat total for each level. Interesting things like Dodrio showing promise in terms of TDO, but then typing and moveset is probably even more important, and I still need to learn all the different resistances (not hopeful of success there, since there's just so much to remember, but I have an infographic for reference). I won't be spending any dust or candy on extra moves until there's more of a consensus on what is really useful in the lower leagues.

Also, Ho-oh and Lugia back this weekend. Just... why? Maybe next weekend we'll get Groudon/Rayquaza (red & green for Christmas)? I need more Rayray candy desperately. And a better Rayray - my best is 93%.

So over the last few days I have been using others research to find Pokemon with moves that quickly fill up the charge bar, which then can basically "block" the other player from using their charge move. Also given a few Pokemon a new charge move and powered up some Pokemon just enough to reach CP1500 or CP2500; I have a few early Pokemon that are annoying just over CP2500 and during my extensive cleanouts and trading have managed to get rid of a few Pokemon that "may" be beneficial to use.

I am still rubbish at the Master League, but its kinda boring when people just use Mewtwo, Tyranitar and Metagross all the time

I've been slowly investing in the odd thing - I've got a little shopping list of Pokemon I want to catch at the right level so I can evolve directly to 1500 or 2500 CP and then only need dust/candy for the extra move, if it's warranted. The starters are really cheap to buy the extra move, and 1km buddies like Gyarados. I'm really enjoying the lower leagues - Great League in particular because it's so diverse. Ultra is basically won by whoever has the most maxed-out 100%s. I'm trying really hard to learn the type chart, but there's a lot of info to absorb. I know the basics from choosing raid counters, but I need to know way more to make sure I have a balanced PVP team and also to swap in the right Pokemon to counter my opponent.

Oh, @nzkiwiman, I've been sitting on your gift because I wasn't sure whether you were bothered about lucky eggs for friendship level-ups, and which levels you wanted to egg. I normally don't bother for great friends but I like to egg for ultra and best. Let me know what you prefer.

Open whenever you want to open; I am not worried about friend XP anymore, or XP in general - nice to see it go up, but the next "milestone" (100 million) is a bit far down the track
I have also been keeping gifts rather then opening them in order to stock up on as many of the 7km eggs as soon as the winter event starts (10am, 19th December) - I'll slowly work my way through them until the bonus half distance unlocks on the 31st

Great, thank you! I will open your gift tomorrow in the hope of finally getting a Riolu (or one of the new babies). I'm looking forward to the event, especially since we almost never get ice types outside of Christmas or nests, other than the odd Swinub from eggs. Even the Spheal seem to have completely vanished. They used to be everywhere.

How's the "winter" event going for people?

I managed to get a shiny Delibird on Xmas Eve, but missing Snorunt and any of the shiny babies. Just hatched a Mantyke on my last round of super incubators from the Ultra Box (using 2/3 at a time, in order to space them out). Haven't seen a Bronzor or the new fish shadow yet, so definitely haven't caught them, but managed a few of the other two.

Did a pre-Xmas catch up and managed to add some more lucky Pokemon to the dex, though with Sinnoh Stones at a premium, it will be a while before they are evolved further and then discarded ...

Due to Xmas/Boxing Day I didn't take full advantage of the stardust part of the event, though I was able to add approx 200k to my total which took me back over 10 million

I have to admit I didn't manage to get much play in during the double dust portion of the event either, what with it hammering down with rain for three full days over Christmas and general family stuff going on. Any dust I am earning (above my self-imposed 4-million minimum) I am currently spending on my great league Azumarill to get it to 1499CP. Worth every drop of dust - I don't think I've lost a match since I added it to my team, even without it powered up to the limit yet.

No shinies for me yet. I have a Snorunt from last year but that's it. I did randomly reroll a high CP Snover with my son and now have a lucky 91% which will become Abomasnow if I don't catch a better one before the event ends. I've hatched five batches of eggs and am seriously wondering if it's worth paying for any more incubators. I'm going to use my freebies once the half distance portion of the event kicks in. So far no shiny babies, a handful of non-shiny Santa Pichu and three Munchlax. I've caught a Bronzor, a L1 Bronzong and a few Croagunk but not seen any fish yet. I'm catching and rerolling as many Sneasel as I can so I can get some good Weavile (dark and ice varieties). I have eight Sinnoh stones from battling but am reluctant to spend them until I have a really good specimen or a desperate need for the evolved Pokemon.

Got an EX pass this morning so will be raiding my first Attack Forme Deoxys next weekend. I've caught three Heatran and one of them was 98% so I'm not sure I can be bothered doing many more, given it's hampered by terrible moves. I'd rather raid for shiny Shinx at this point.

I'm a bit underwhelmed by the announcement that the research breakthroughs for January and February will be all the December stuff plus Ho-oh and Lugia. Has Niantic run out of ideas? What about themed research? Bug month had very few bug-related things and now they seem to have abandoned that altogether. Hopefully we will get more of the Gen 4 evolutions unlocked soon, like Mammoswine, which I have been waiting for, especially with all the Gen 4 dragon legendaries on the way. Piloswine was one of my favourites when Zapdos was the raid boss.

From one event straight into another ..

How did we all do with the Winter Event - I managed two shiny Delibird, a shiny Snorunt (which I am very happy to receive - and it was 89%), two Munchlax and two Mantyke with 4 more eggs received during the event to hatch. No baby shinies sadly, but expected.

Tons and tons of storage used up holding some of these winter event spawns for trading ...

PvP has taken a hit though during the last few weeks, only managed a few days of battles because it has been so hard to organise anyone else to battle - and when I try from my phone nothing seems to happen on the other end

I did terribly, lol. No shinies of any variety (although Griffin got a Delibird, a Snorunt and a shiny Togepi). Hatches included 4 Munchlax and several non-shiny hatted Pichu. I have one last batch of eggs still incubating. At least this new event doesn't mess with the spawn pool so we have a better chance of encountering the new Gen 4 releases. I'm waiting to see whether the egg pool has been improved before I decide to buy more incubators.

I'm slowly building my PVP teams. Have one Great League team I am happy with and currently I'm working on an Ultra League team.

Best moment of the week was re-rolling a Meltan from our first batch and getting a lucky out of it. Griffin's was 98%, lol.

My last batch of 7km eggs just hatched. The penultimate one was a shiny Wynaut :)
