I did about 30 tasks and ended up with 2 shiny Lotad. I didn't realise that the shiny Castform was available so I missed out on checking a whole pile of them but ended up with 3 shiny Castform.

I was out with another player for about 3.5 hours; he was doing the same tasks as I was during that time and while I got a few shinies, he had no luck - his first came about 4 hours into the event

Based on 15 shinies/108 tasks on Clamperl day vs 11/186 tasks for Lotad day, the shiny rate did seem to be a bit lower
After the 5th shiny I was didn't need to get anymore shinies, though of course I was looking for a perfect ..

The only benefit of the longer time frame was that it wasn't a mad rush - I was able to collect tasks, stop and do those tasks before moving on, and was also able to clear out the bag space as needed

Glad that we had sunny weather and the spawns we did have - would have hated to have had almost any other weather to get the boring spawns we get all the time
In this regard, Clamperl day was way better

I wish I'd known the rates were going to be lower because it basically turned what was supposed to be a relaxing afternoon into a rush for us as we scrambled to do tasks faster and faster as we went further and further in with little success. Given the overwhelmingly positive feedback that Clamperl Day received I thought they'd follow the same formula, which left me at a disadvantage for starting so late. I hope they listen to the feedback from this event. Longer event window = good. Fewer, bad spawns and (going by comments in the community) much lower shiny rates = bad. I'd have taken a more exciting spawn pool over shiny Castform any day.

The Bug event has been frustrated; over 100 Pokestops this morning before work and I found 2 event tasks ..
Thankfully the number of Scyther spawns seems to have increased so hopefully I can find a shiny or 6 ... (though as I type this, it is raining in game - not in real life - and all the Scythers have gone)

So Niantic has of course "done a Niantic" and released a feature that guarantees a lucky trade ... that doesn't always work ..

And then replied to someone on Twitter with a clarification, only for someone else to "clarify" the previous tweet as being incorrect

I really just can't understand how they can continue to do the same mistakes over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again ...

That being said, anyone gone lucky friends with anyone yet?
I got notification that one person did go lucky friends with me - we haven't yet done the trade due to the above issue.
I also had a lucky Pokemon on a first interaction with someone, though I am thinking that was just RNG doing its mysterious things

I am looking forward to Bagon Community Day - hopefully the weather improves locally

Their comms department needs a kick in the behind. As does their QA team (if they even have one). I am sure they'd save a fortune in support costs if they just worded their announcements less ambiguously.

I have been interacting with all my best friends that I can actually meet up with and so far no lucky friends. Probably a good thing if the feature is buggy.

I'm also looking forward to Bagon Day. I've hoarded 350 great balls and 250 Pinap berries, since I don't have a huge amount of Bagon candy. A bit sad my 100% Salamence is about to be outclassed but Outrage isn't too far ahead of Draco Meteor so it could be worse.

I regularly (daily) trade with my daughters account but don't seem to have become lucky friends thus far.  I too got a lucky trade the other day but thinking it was also the usual RNG lucky.

I'd be interested to know how and when the lucky friend notification pops up as I often do batches of trading without going back out past the friends screen.  Would be a right royal pain in the bum to have to back all the way out to the main screen after each trade just on the off-chance of a notification popping up.  Much like the painful process for photobombing smeargle.

Unfortunately timing for Bagon day is exactly when I'm away racing at a venue that has minimal coverage at best, only in one precise spot if you stand on a stop bank facing the right direction.  So I'll be not worrying too much about it.

Looks like they've fixed whatever issue was causing the non-lucky lucky friends trades. Shame the same can't be said about community day, which was by all accounts a right muck-up once Japan's event kicked in. We were fine during the extra hour for trading, but once that finished we all stumbled in the dark down to the Takapuna Beach gym to do a Giratina raid and we barely managed it. Took forever to actually get into the lobby and then we were barely doing any damage to the raid boss - took 15 of us almost the full time allowance to win the raid. I got a 91% weather boosted out of it, which was pretty nice, but hard work. Nothing as bad as the poor people in GMT +7, +8 and +9 who got two extensions but Niantic forgot to add the extra evolving hour to the second extension so a lot of people got the wrong move on their prized Bagon. I really hope Niantic does something to compensate them because that really is bad form. I feel really sorry for them.

Had a rather good Bagon Community Day - I didn't go as hard out as other community days as the people I was with didn't plan on being out for the entire session and didn't bring chargers etc
At around 5pm, we headed to a pub that has access to three Pokestops that were already lured up. At around 5.30 we noticed that the Bagon spawns seemed to be replaced by weather spawns and then around 6.30 the game seemed to be struggling. Thankfully by this stage I had evolved a 96% and had received a lucky 96% that I also evolved ...

I didn't with the game for the rest of the night since it wasn't working and then read about the troubles on Reddit

I guess having our Community Day first was actually a benefit due to the complete s-show that it turned into from 7pm local time when Japan and the rest of Asia joined in.
Niantics subsequent handling of the issue was just as poor as their handling of any other issue when they don't fire up enough servers to cover the demand. Extending Community Day to 7pm and then 8pm when the issue isn't even resolved is just poor and I do feel really bad for those people who evolved perfect and luckies etc and got Draco Meteor.

Did manage to meet up with one of my lucky friends on Saturday - got a 98% lucky Dialga (sadly 14-15-15)
Now I just need some more candies to max it ...

Yes, going first was a bonus because we were all on our own for the first two hours. Separating Asia into timezones doesn't really work because the bulk of the players are all located in one timezone. Having NZ and Australia go earlier doesn't take much of a load off of Japan. I think even if Japan had its own event, they'd struggle. Clearly, their server scaling isn't working well enough. I really hope they do something to compensate the players that lost their chance at Outrage. I did pretty well, despite about an hour and a quarter with no shinies - ended the day with five. My best shiny was a weather-boosted L33 at 76%. I might reroll that with a lucky friend at some stage but as it is, it's still pretty nice. My son and I traded all our high CPs and got a couple of luckies. My best was a 93% with 15 attack that I maxed and added to my Giratina/Latios team. Interestingly, my maxed 100% with Draco Meteor is still being recommended in my top six by Pokebattler, so I don't feel like I completely wasted my candy and dust on it.

I finally got a lucky friend yesterday - my next-door neighbour - so I popped over and traded him a Riolu for a Palkia. I didn't get any good Palkia despite putting in a decent effort. So now I have a lucky 89%. Only 13 attack but that's only an issue if I intend to max it out, which I don't. I would like to get a good lucky Dialga at some point since they're more useful, being not-weak to Dragon.

I'm pretty keen for the eggstravaganza starting tomorrow. I have about 70 incubator uses available to me after slowly stocking up on the adventure boxes every other week. My son and I are planning to do a few Latios raids over the next few days (yay for school holidays) and hopefully bag a shiny before the weekend so we can concentrate on finding some shiny Shuckle. Plus there will be shiny Buneary to hunt all week.
