Hi All,

I have a friend whose kid is into gaming. He has an X-Box but I want to get him into PC gaming, however I want him to start with a low end machine, basically a second hand machine with basic GPU enough to play Arc Survival evolved. I got him that game at xmas time but it doesn't run on his old laptop.

The long term plan is that we'll put together a second hand case with an i5 or similar CPU 4gb ram and a lower end GPU, I want to teach him how the PC goes together and get him into the concept of upgrading components as he saves more money. Really wanting to start him off for around $200 - $250 that I'll put in to get him started.

The minimum specs for the game are 2Ghz dual core, 4gb ram, 1gb GPU, 20gb disc space so not mind bending, unfortunately I sold my GTX 750ti and other old bits and pieces from an old PC build!

Where is the best place to get second hand gear aside from TradeMe? Is there a shop that sells obsolete PC's etc?

Anyone on here got anything going around my budget?

GPForums, but the buy sell forums there are locked to people who have been a member for X long and made X posts to try and filter out scammers.

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but isn't Arc a pretty graphics intensive, not-well-optomised game?  I don't think a low end computer is going to cut it.

Yeah its a fairly heavy game - it only just runs on my budget box, and friends with better systems say its still not perfect.

Maybe get them into something with lighter system reqs......

Mobo: Gigabyte 790FXT-UD5P

CPU: AMD Phenom 2 (i think X4 955)

GPU: Sapphire HD4890 1GB

HDD: Hitachi 2TB - just pulled out of my NAS, has been running without fail for about 2 years.
