Hey Guys

Who out there has flip as a broadband provider? I have had them for about 10 months now and i have trouble after trouble with them.

I am a casual gamer and like playing games online. I had a ps4 for a couple of years and when i moved to my new house i decided to go with flip broadband any who i would get this ps4 error ws-37397-9 which was stopping me from getting online.

It would do this for about 2weeks then just one day it would work for about 2 days then this error would pop up again. So i emailed my internet provider and they blamed sony as sony didnt wont to use the ip address for some reason.

After about a week of emailing back and forth sony said that the error is because someone that has the same ip address was banned so everyone on that address is banned until flip flipped there ip address.

So after all that and alot time i decided to sell my ps4 for a pc. Now everything was working fine for a bout a month and then BAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!! my ping all of a sudden goes up to 500ms+ and after some research it is my broadband providers fault. So if anyone out there that is using flip as a provider and you are a gamer please let me know if you have had any troubles or non at all with flip!!!!!!!

cheers

gg

Sorry to hear about your experience, I know that the Sony issues were a major problem in the past for Flip, but I understand that is solved now (not that it helps you any more, by the sounds of it)

However in reference to your most recent issues:

Are you using a wired or wireless connection to your router?

What research lead you to believe the issue lies with Flip?

Thanks for the reply.

I have my pc wired to my modem. I have tried all the things that i have found in all the different forums and it has not fixed it. Im not sure why my ping is so high. I have been playing for about a month online with my ping usually around 30 to 50ms and i have had no problem at all. Now it is so high so games are pretty much unplayable. Are you with Flip?

Flip is part of our group, so you could say that.

What games specifically are you seeing these high pings?

Can you send me a private message with your Flip username so I can pass this to someone to have a closer look?  As I am sure this is not "normal".

edit: another thought - are you doing any kind of file sharing or uploading to the cloud?  As your ping going so high could be due to a lot of upload traffic.  Not sure if you eliminated that already.

Thanks!

Arr you on ADSL2+ and saturating your upstream? There is probably a person every week or so who complains about poor speeds and/or high latency with their ISP and the issue is actually the user saturating their connection.

Hi OP - I flicked you a reply regarding checking if you are doing any kind of uploading which would explain your symptoms - can you get back to me in PM or on the thread pls?

Some things to check for:

Spotify (it does share your library)
iCloud
Dropbox
oneDrive (although this is usually pretty good at sharing bandwidth)
Bit Torrent clients (uTorrent etc)

Thanks, once you eliminate that I can go ahead and have someone this side take a look

I just had this same discussion with a friend who is also on Flip, but was advised there is no resolution. Is this incorrect, that they should be resolved? It only impacts PS, not XB.

I understand the situation has improved, that's not to say that it doesn't still happen sometimes.  Just it should be less often.

I also have gaming issues with Flip since I have been with them 2 years. I believe its due to them having implemented a technology called “Carrier Grade Network Address Translation” (CGNAT). link - http://support.flip.co.nz/hc/en-gb/articles/204210280-Will-port-forwarding-work-on-the-Flip-Network

I have an Xbox One and get disconnected all the time on online games and so does my flat mate. Before I knew about the CGNAT I tried to port forward the gaming servers e.g. Call of duty - black ops 3 and elder scrolls online but still no luck.

Cheers,

Phil

I'm not sure if fully relevant but I'm with flip and the only way I can play online is to change the broadband security level to 1(via flip website).

Then have to turn it to 0/off if I want to purchase something from the PS store.

I don't usually have too many problems with ping tho
