Hello everyone,

I have a few questions for those of you who are gamers. My laptop is still kicking but I am having difficulty with speed and graphics since the game I play has updated with a patch. I have decided to just do a complete upgrade and purchase a new laptop. I have found a few laptops that have better graphic cards but I don’t know enough about newer setups to choose the best one. 1000 dollars, thats my budget. Got my eyes on one of the ASUS ROG laptop on this list; http://technemag.com/best-gaming-laptop-under-1000/. Or if you could recommend a laptop on this list: https://www.cnet.com/topics/laptops/best-laptops/gaming-laptops/ I want to keep costs down, and I could use some help choosing, thanks a lot :)

ROG stands for "Republic of Gamers", and is ASUS's branding for gaming products, so yes an ASUS ROG laptop will be good for gaming.

ASUS and MSI are generally well regarded for gaming laptops.

Acer don't touch with a 10 ft barge pole.

Alienware are usually pretty good but also pretty pricey.

Given you are in Canada I can't really recommend a particular supplier.

Try HIDevolution.com. I've bought my last two Alienware laptops from them and they've been excellent to deal with. They have customisable Asus ROG's from $1049 USD.

Hey man,

I have my laptop up for $1000, I think this would suit you well!

It plays all recent releases on medium @ 60FPS on charge or 30FPS off charge.
The SSD really helps it.

Cheers

If OP really wants to game get a desktop (better CPU, cooling).

Luckily the new laptops now have desktop GPUs (unlike the older ones which have handicapped mobile versions).

The new dell gaming 15 has a 1050Ti GPU and 7700HQ CPU ... I'd say get one with minimum 1050 GPU or better still, 1060 but that's probably beyond your budget.
