RickW: Picked up a switch 2 days ago, my first Nintendo console since the original nes. Currently playing Zelda which I'm loving. The left joycon loosing sync is a pain tho. The console is only good in handheld mode or if the joy on is under a meter away from the console.
Sounds unusual. I'd try taking it back and swapping it for a fresh unit. Controls should be fine in normal bluetooth range

Bluetooth is quite prone to interference. I wonder if thats what causes some these issues with Switch controller range....although i've also heard you can open the controller and make a small mod that boosts the antenna, as its default setup its fairly well attenuated.
