I'm also looking at FFXVI but I should probably finish FFVII Intergrade first

Feels like BF:BC2 and it is great, devs are like 3 dudes and game is $25.

I grabbed FF16 last night having played the demo last week, which I really enjoyed.  Looking forward to this one, should be different from the usual games I've been playing this year.

Been playing FFXVI, got it first day of release. The game is great, scratches that DMC itch and is very reminiscent of FF14 in the UI and styling (thanks creative unit 3). Campaign story and cinematics are so far solid for a FF game.

I do have to say I’m fairly disappointed in the performance on ps5. The game heavily downscales using FSR1.0 going as low as 720p to get 60fps perf mode, graphics mode fairs better but is not as functional for an action game with combo timings etc. at 30fps or less. It does however automatically switch between to two seamlessly if set to perf mode, 60fps while in combat and switching to graphics mode while in cutscenes.

If there is replay on the table or DLC I might just rebuy on PC. PS5 just doesn’t do this game justice, especially if the rumours of it using raytracing by default is true.

According to the DF guys it was likely developed for a good 30fps experience.  And I have to admit it plays very well at 30fps, even with the overdone motion blur.  They'll release a toggle for motion blur soon apparently, but obviously the performance mode was a late piece of work that'll have to evolve over time.  Like Jedi Survivor.  I also wouldn't bank on a PC port being any better, based on the ports that have been out this year and last being wildly undercooked.  There's just no guarantee these days that a PC version of a game means a solid better experience than consoles.

TBH if most new games performed as well in 30fps fidelity mode as FF16 does, I'd be happy to play more in fidelity mode instead of performance.

Agree it looks amazing, and I’d love to play it that way but it’s almost impossible to consistently land/chain battle techniques. It’s hard enough in perf mode to just do the basic sword+magic chain inputs.

Hope they patch the motion blur soon, it get pretty bad in later boss battles. Effects end up just blurring the whole screen and covering boss attack movements.

I don’t doubt there’d be issues on PC at least with a possible directstorage requirement, but the fact that RT is probably heavily bringing down the PS5 perf and that at least nvidia card would do significantly better makes me think i’d be okay pushing native 4k 60fps on a 40xx series. PS5 can currently do neither consistently.

Edit: mentioning the above just for anyone interested in how it runs at 4k, it would likely look better on a lower res panel. Funnily enough it’s more consistent on 1080p remote play.

And I would have watched DF’s video fully if they didn’t have that horrible habit of putting spoilers in. Had to turn it off part way through.

FF16 now has motion blur setting which makes it much more bearable.

Been also playing Battlebit for the battlefield experience. A little bit of Children of Morta and likely Outlast Trials with some friends.

I've been enjoying Marvels Midnight Suns on PS5. Picked it up super cheap and had no real idea what it was about. I had in my head it was a turn based strategy game like X-Com but it isn't. Turns out it's a turn based card battle game, with some story filling and character interaction between battles. Surprisingly fun and has kept me entertained for a few hours.

Have just finished Star Wars Jedi: Survivor on PS5 with 100% completion and 205 hours on the clock. Owing to my ageing twitch reflex, I was simply not skilled enough and was incapable of doing some of the optional ‘force tear’ extreme parkour/platforming tests - but fortunately they did not count against the 100%. Apart from a few of those, I explored, discovered and collected everything.

Absolutely massive game and totally brilliant IMO - loved every second even though some of the in-game platforming required 20-30 sequential button presses and stick steers to be executed with precise timing and pin-point directional accuracy. I found that extremely difficult at times and I attempted some of those runs 50/100? times over a period of an hour before I perfected them. Great sense of achievement when they’re done though - and also once the whole game is completed. Fantastic.

Now on the hunt for my next game - maybe the new Dead Space.

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

Picked up Diablo iv for the ps5 and currently giving that a smash, such good fun. Started with a necromancies rather than a Barbarian which is usually my first choice and having a blast with it.

Jagged Alliance 3, seems fun what little I've managed to play it in between the wife playing it.
