I'm looking for something to replace God of War which I will finish in the next few days. I have thoroughly enjoyed it. Would appreciate ideas.

In recent years on PS4 I have played HRZ, RDR2, GTA V, Last of Us, Uncharted 4, Witcher 3, Fallout 4.

I'm thinking of Metal Gear Solid - Phantom Pain. Seems it's a stealth thing - I quite like that - and can have a long play time. It has 93 on Metacritic.

If you haven't played Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, it's worth playing. Reasonably short and quite fun. I personally have never been able to get into the MGS series but it is very well rated by all accounts. Nier: Automata is also fantastic - the settings are wonderful and the combat is sensational.

Thanks. Actually I have played all the Uncharted games - all very good.

MGS-PP is currently on sale at $7 for download on the PS Store so I haven’t got a lot to lose by giving it a whirl. Apart from my time of course - but I have a hell of a lot that of right now.

Spiderman is good :)

Thanks. Yes, I have heard that but had forgotten about it. Certainly worth more thought.

You will have seen in another thread that I downloaded Spidey last night. Better be good because I'm holding you accountable. πŸ˜€

Gears of War: PP is super cheap on special price just for the next few days, so I'll download that too for future use.

Spidey is good. It just isn't the all time great that some people like to sell it as, IMO. It is an absolute technical marvel and the game world is absolutely immersive in the sense that you feel like Spiderman and then some. In that respect, it is utterly amazing. The action is also dynamic, fluid, and there's decent variety in the main campaign and side missions. But it suffers from the Curse of Open World Games where there's a lot of trash-mob-beating side missions that you are kind of semi-compelled to do to complete the game plus to avoid being harassed by the trash mobs as you sling around for the campaign and important side missions. What's worst is that about 75% of so into the game after you thought you had cleared all the trash mobs, there's another full round of them suddenly added.

I liken it to a great meal that gets ruined by a very average dessert.

I still have it sitting in my PS4 as the last game I played on the system about 6 months ago. I havent been able to get much beyond the initial tutorial mission, it just feels old in a way that not many recent games have.

I want to like it and will give it another shot, but I just find it very hard to get into for some reason.

I'm the same re. trying to get into Spider-man. I think I've left it at 15-20% completion and I'm planning to return at some point in the near future.

I find these types of open-world games with so many distractions from the main story quite intimidating, and I can only normally really tackle one at a time (currently The Division 2). I still have a sealed copy of RDR2 on my shelf not started for this same reason, and I never really got the hype of GTAV for the same reason...

See on the other hand I loved GTA V, and RDR2 would be up there with my favourite games of all time...

With RDR2 you can easily avoid a LOT of the distractions and just smash through the game.

Having said that, I have been replaying it and ticking off every little piece of hunting / treasure maps etc.

As Rockstar have recently released new challenges etc I have been going through finding them.

Good to know re. Red Dead 2.

I blame playing a s$%&load of FPS's normally I think, plus only having one TV screen in our house shared by the whole family doesn't. It's tough to sit down late at night to game when you have early work starts, so I prefer to just jump into Battlefield for a couple of rounds.

We're shifting houses in a couple of weeks and we have a dedicated study/office at the new house so here's my chance to catch up on PS4 backlog and perhaps even join the PC Master Race finally πŸ˜‚

Playing through Horizon Zero Dawn at the moment. At the risk of repeating an oft-seen theme: I just don't agree with the critics who rave to the ends of the earth about it. Have just gotten to the second major area/hub of the game (just before I can travel to the Carja capital) -- the game world is aesthetically beautiful, Aloy's character is refreshingly multi-faceted, and the fighting is really dynamic and fun. But at the same time, the world is just lifeless and dull; there's always a pile of trash items to loot/collect/busy oneself with, so I end up spending lots of time in the rather boring looking menu crafting this and that. The characters that I have met so far (apart from Aloy) are flatter than cardboard and incredibly trope-laden.

At current pace, I'd call it a 7/10. It's not bad as a bit of time-filler but not very memorable. Here's hoping it improves.

Correction - not thinking straight. Meant ‘Metal Gear Solid V - PP’. Not Gears of War.

I'm up to the last act of Final Fantasy 7 Remake.  It's just a phenomenal game.  Absolute stunner.

I am pleased to say that Horizon Zero Dawn really noticeably picks up after you go to Carja capital and some of the quests become very interesting. They are also very challenging yet fair. The art style behind the game world is just drool-worthy. Ubisoft can only dream of designing game worlds this beautiful.
