Absolutely agree about the technical aspects @Item - the performance they squeezed out of that platform is unbelievable. If they'd have played gameplay footage of it during the recent PS5 event I'd have believed it was as good as anything else on show.  Often in the game I'd just stand there looking at things for longer than I should admit.  Snow, foliage, white water rapids through the city.

So, over the weekend I finished TLOU2 and I have to say I am left feeling a bit flat. It was for me, a little anticlimactic and predictable. I also felt, like a lot of Naughty Dogs IP, that it tends to go on longer than it should.

This isn't to say I didn't enjoy it, because I did think it was an amazing game. Perhaps not QUITE masterpiece level, but fantastic. The Story telling was fantastic, and some parts of the story left me gasping!

I don't love scary games so stuff leaping out at me from the dark when I am armed with a flashlight with a small illumination cone was my least enjoyed part of the game and there were some glaring holes in some gameplay, but I'd still say it's very good to play and probably one of the best PS4 games around.

As others mentioned, it's exceptional what they managed to get out of the console in terms of graphics and sound. I'd probably give it a 8.5/10

I've been playing Thief Simulator for the last week or so. Great game! I had no idea that I'd really love sneaking around and casing people's homes before breaking in and stealing all their stuff.

I tried to get into the new Foundation DLC for Control on Xbox last night, but TLOU2 seems to have broken me for a while, though it could also be because it's a couple of months since I played Control and I've forgotten the....controls.....  Ghost of Tsushima is out next week I think so maybe that will be able to reset me :)

Control got such good reviews but I can't get a handle on the controls either.

Don't get me wrong, I loved the game itself.  I spent a lot of time in that world and the controls became very intuitive, I just forgot what they are and the DLC doesn't take you through any kind of refresher, so I just need to spend a bit more time with it eventually to get back to normal.

Payday 2 is fun for that sort of thing too, more so when youve got a good group to play with.

I have been playing Borderlands 3 Co-op with my friend. I am surprised that in 4 level up's I haven't found a single weapon that is better than what I have!?

Also, and this is a dumb question. When I play co-op with a headset, I can hear my voice twice, and I can hear in game narratives twice as well!

I think my friend is having sound through his speakers and just using the headset for microphone.. I am using a headset only...

I mute people who have that set up. Don't care if they're on my team or not :) Its just annoying as hell.

currently playing Stranded Deep started Green Hell but spend most time trying not to starve to death or cure myself of snake bites, parasites and/or broken bones to progrees far.

Finished playing Sub Nautica and the beta Sub Nautica below zero but find Stranded Deep as good if not better.

For years i've been playing RTS games like Age of Evony and most recently March of Empires but sick of having to log in to shield up or a pillaged city. Must be getting old :)

I am still playing through TLoU2. I am probably about 60 to 70% into the game. Gameplay mechanics-wise, it's truly a stunning game. As others have mentioned, the graphics and artistic presentation is out of this world good. But unlike the first game, I find the story telling to be noticeably worse in every way conceivable: this ranges from the writing in the items/notes that you pick up, the cardboard boringness of most of the characters and even Ellie herself, to the shoehorning of "controversial" topics which seemingly is done for little reason other than perceived shock value. As a social liberal, I find the notion that topics such as trans-genderism should be controversial to be rather sad. Generally speaking, whereas the first game had real moments of levity like when Ellie discovered Bill's dirty magazine and evidence of possible, err, fapping, to well defined characters ranging from the African-American brothers that you run into and tried to protect, to the really creepy David guy, the second game's writing has mostly been stiff and the characters boring like cardboard cutouts.

I don't want to spoil things too much for others who haven't played it yet but a certain other character that you play is the only character that I find to have any depth so far, along with one of this person's eventual travel companions. On the topic of this companion, one moment in the game/one aspect of his sexuality so far encapsulates what I mean by the game just shoehorning "controversial" topics just for the sake of shock value. It was fairly obvious that this character seemingly identified more with the male gender despite being biologically female. But in a shootout, that character's former companions referred to him by his former name and your character just chirps back later with "Do you want to talk about it?". It all feels cheap and contrived and screams of "Hey not many other games talk about/feature trans-gendered people! Let us remind you!". Same with the very excessively roided-up look of this playable character. Contextually the game sort of explains why but there are plenty of strong people that don't look all roided up. I give Naughty Dog points for having the creative courage to not just turn this game into a "Cute Ellie playing lovable hero, Episode 1" and to subvert a lot of the stereotypical gamers' obsession with conventional beauty etc but again ND seems more determine to kind of rub your face in this fact than to deliver a game where these aspects naturally flow into the story.

There are well done aspects to the story - aspects of Ellie's relationship with her female companion is maturely handled and great. What shines the most for me is the gameplay -- no one does pacing like Naughty Dog. You get to enjoy and admire the environment, whilst facing challenges that are all fair and evenly paced. No ludicrous spikes in difficulty, nor endless bags of cheap frights or shooting galleries. They've also refined the stealth gameplay significantly so that stealth is, well, hard to do well whilst feeling very rewarding when executed well. But it's never OPed. You also can't exploit explosives like you could in the first game. Overall, the gameplay is many times more dynamic and fun than the first game.

11/10 for the gameplay; 6.5/7 out of 10 for the story and its delivery.
