Was playing Borderlands 2 with a mate but he got bored of gaming so I have moved to playing Dota 2 with randoms, used to play BF5 before Borderlands 2

Keen to buddy up with anyone on Dota 2 or Battlefield.

Mostly just making my way for the Formula 1 Season with F1 2018...since starting to watch it again this year, and having got the game, I feel it adds a lot more to the spectating when you can take the same lines through the corners.

gehenna: Been a while since there was some activity in this thread, but with all the great games recently I’ve unlocked it to see if we get some chat going again.

I recently picked up an Xbox One X and decided to play Red Dead Redemption 2 again, this time on the Xbox instead of the PS4 Pro. What a great great game. I get why some people dislike the slow-burn and the realism of some of the tasks (e.g. camp chores), but I spent so much more time exploring this time and I have to say the game is just packed with fun things to do. I completed all of the Honor stories and tons of the random character storylines. Chose some different options in the main story too and had a blast replaying as Arthur. I decided to grow his beard out as far as it would go, which took most of the game to achieve but it was very cool and funny watching this huge beard bouncing up and down when riding the horse :)

Just bought Man of Medan so I’ll be back on the PS4 for a few days this week. I’ve been looking forward to this, I LOVED Until Dawn so I’m very keen to see what Supermassive has done with this story.

What’s everyone playing, or looking forward to?

Was well into RDR2, including a 4-5 month break earlier this year when we were away, then about six weeks ago my PS4 died. I replaced it with a PS4 Pro and because all my data and saved games had gone, I started RDR2 over again.

Did every possible side mission and every possible random encounter. Found all 144 cigarette cards, upgraded all my weapons, found all rock carvings, all dinosaur bones, all treasure, killed all legendary animals, did heaps of crafting, got all trinkets and talismans, etc. What an amazing, astounding, immersive game. I too drank heaps of Hair Tonic and never, ever shaved.

TBH I did cheat to find some of the collectables - you’d never ever find them otherwise - and I’m not ashamed of that.

As of a few days ago. I have finished the main story - and after that, as much as I love the game, I’ve lost the urge to go on in the sandbox, so I’ll probably just leave it at that.

Now I’m going to go back and re-do Horizon Zero Dawn and The Witcher 3 - both of which I never finished. Soon after getting the PS4 Pro we got an LG OLED and both of those games support HDR (as did RDR2) so re-playing them on the new telly will be a bit of a treat. The old PS4 didn’t do HDR.

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

Horizon Zero Dawn is a fantastic story. Enjoy! Pro tip... Grab all the resources you possibly can early on and just keep grabbing them as you find them. It makes the first few level ups much easier.

I played Titanfall 2 over the weekend. I played it a long time ago (release time) for about an hour and couldn't get into it but it's SO much better now. I am thoroughly enjoying it, though I must say, so far I prefer the Person combat rather than Titan combat, but I expect it's early on. The weapons and aiming of human combat feels fantastic and satisfying.

I also managed to get GOW5 as part of GamePass, and if there is a better-looking game that does HDR, in existence, I am certainly unaware of it. It's jaw-droppingly beautiful. It's not my type of game, I never really enjoyed GOW, but getting it for free allowed me to play it at least.

Borderlands 3 this weekend and next weekend.

Just reinstalled Windows (didnt have a good experience doing the 1803-1903 upgrade, so fresh install from 1903), so minimal games installed atm except for Overwatch (still) and Dirt Rally.

Ive got the itch to play some old school Amiga games, so will sort out WinUAE this week to satisfy that...... thinking Syndicate will be good start :)

God I LOVED Syndicate. I wish they had a proper successor to it.

I have played a couple of copycats but they were missing the essential elements I felt.

Actually I went looking for an IOS equivalent for Populous the other day.

Yeah, they really need to redo Syndicate - leave the AI/game engine alone, and just update the gfx/sounds. Dont **** with anything else.

I enjoyed Populous II - might add that to my list as well :D

This isn't so much a game I'm playing but more an observation or musing out loud...

I struggle to play FPS and TPS on consoles, but SOME games feel and control great, and I have never really been able to get my head around why.

For example Titanfall 2, the human combat is amazing, it's easy to aim but not stupidly so, movement isn't too fast, it just feels... Right. Another game was Resistance for PS3.

I have come from PC traditionally, where a mouse made things pretty easy. Perhaps it's more a case of how arcady it feels? I prefer the less realistic weapon handling, which is how I prefer my car games too.

I wish there was a group of settings you could apply to any game, that would allow the same level of "feel" to ensure you get a similar shooting experience time and time again.

I bought "Control" and I am struggling to get into it.

Thought it might be a good workout for my RTX2080 and the previews and reviews I saw looked pretty promising...but:

  1. It looks sort of great. Sometimes. Lighting and RTX features are excellent. Objects and particles are top tier. Character models and faces are all over the shop - main characters are Ok and minor NPCs have faces like PlayMobile characters. Some of the textures are really weak. Also has some weird artifacting/crawling on some shadows
  2. Atmosphere and incidental video scenes are great! Really sets a good tone and theme...
  3. Gameplay is "meh". Character control feels super floaty and light-weight, like she is really a balloon person and the gun-play isn't very satisfying at all. Considering the Max Payne heritage, I was expecting more here. Some of the "powers" are a bit more satisfying but not so much that I am likely to continue playing...

Definitely a try-before-you-buy and I don't see myself going back to it TBH.

After finishing RDR2 a couple of weeks ago, I’ve gone back and restarted HZD as intended. I hadn’t really got very far with it when I stopped earlier this year when we went away.

Really enjoying it as you predicted. It doesn’t have quite the depth RDR2 and the graphics are slightly cheesy by comparison - but the UI seems simpler and more intuitive, which is fun. I’m now past where I got to first time round and did everything available on the way - which I didn’t do the first time.

Looking forward to many more hours/days/weeks ........

Funny, I went looking for that thread earlier, but I couldn't recall what forum I discussed this previously.
