Now that it's in the doldrums, GPU prices have dropped. Check out the price graph from Amazon

Will be interesting to see how much of that drop is reflected locally.

Based on current prices still, i expect very little. old expensive stock imported at higher price..
with the RTX series coming out, and the price hike on MSRP there we probably won't see much change overall in the market here...

Any comments made are personal opinion and do not reflect directly on the position my current or past employers may have.
I was asking this of a friend who works for the distributor for Gigabyte, Asus, Inno3D and Galax and he said they have a lot of stock of the 10xx series and the dollar has dropped over 10% since April which means we wont see a big drop locally for a while unless the dollar improves or manufacturers want GTX 10xx stock cleared.
Lots of ex-mining cards on trademe .. RX470 and 570 going for under $200 (almost GTX1060 performance) looks to be the best bang/buck option this side of Christmas
The prices in NZ seem to be close to pre-cryptocurrency levels: I've seen 1070s for $650, 1070tis for $750 and 1080s for $850 new which is alright pricing
Yeah, wouldn't expect to see the 10xx cards drop much locally, even when the RTX cards come out - those RTX cards are bloody expensive.
Also, I found it really interesting that NVidia's focus was on the graphical functionality (Raytracing etc) of the new cards, rather than overall FPS power.
My initial thought was, hmm, perhaps they're not too much of an upgrade for anthing not using Raytracing, but that was quickly followed by, perhaps they're marketing them this way to dissuade crypto-miners from buying up all the stocks.

Batman: NZD has taken a pounding recently ... so until that corrects ...
Its not so much due to the NZD, but more a rampantly strong USD....... driven by rising US interest rates and a strong economy over there..
There was a influx about a week before the announcement of the RTX lineup, lot of gamblers dumping their pascals. Now its turning around given the cost of RTX.
Realistically, unless the RTX benchmarks do blow away the perf of pascal, I would grab a 1080ti for a reasonable price and use it till RTX cards drop, or the new lineup on 7nm come out.
In the US 1080ti's are going for around or below $500 ($750nzd).
SpartanVXL: Seen quite a few ex-mining 1080ti's go for around $900 on trademe. There was a influx about a week before the announcement of the RTX lineup, lot of gamblers dumping their pascals. That's without their sales tax though
This weekend there's a 1070ti for $720 and a 1070 for $585 at Computer Lounge
Can't justify buying an almost 2.5 year old graphics card though
Its an interesting topic i'm following closely.
I'd like to upgrade (to I'm not sure what yet) so am looking for interest in the GTX 1080 I currently have (its currently the offers/wanted forum for just under 700).
Do you think its too much considering 2nd hand 1080ti's are going for 900? Usually they've been mining.
Yes the cards are over 2year old tech now, but what do you buy if you need that level of performance today?
A few thoughts I've had on the new cards coming:
-7nm is not far away (and will have shipping cards in 2018)
-2080"ti" is being released immediately with new generation...
-I'd be willing to bet that Nvidia will release 30xx series 7nm cards in twelve months or even as soon as 9 months. 20xx series might be short lived?
-These cards introduce ray tracing - but will they have enough resources to do the technology justice?
-7nm will allow many more transistors and will probably include much more of the ray tracing resources to do them properly.
-I'm not sure ray tracing will help VR much at this stage (in the future probably), maybe the added anti-aliasing could help? not sure.
-In pure flops the new cards are not much more powerful (1070 is 6.5 Tflops, 2070 is 7.8 Tflops, 1080 is 8.8 Tflops [9.3 with factory OC], 2080 is 10.6 Tflops) - different architectures are not directly comparable - so how different is Turing? Looking at volta benchmarks the new architecture is more efficient at using those flops, so will be faster than these numbers indicate.
-The new DDR6 cards have much more memory bandwidth, good for high resolutions, anti-aliasing, and VR
-Personally the software I use is still 95% directx 11 (VR)
Ti is much better 30-40% than the non Ti so it depends what the $200 is worth to you
