I don't have that problem, but just like the PS4 they can't seem to fix the fact that every time I wake the console it comes up with a broken external storage message and insists on a repair.

Sorry, I was very brief here. What I meant was, if it turns out to be a fault, then you would likely still be covered by the CGA. I wasn't suggesting not troubleshooting or trying to find a workaround, which would be the first steps :)

So this may be a question that's been asked, or perhaps someone knows a solution to my issue.  I purchased a 2TB SSD from PB Tech to upgrade the internal storage, a Samsung 980 Pro (w/heatsink), installed and formatted, and coming back with a read speed of just over 5700mb/s, which is technically ok, but I transferred a game (Detroit: Become Human) from the console storage to the SSD and the game stutters when loading the chapters.  The gameplay itself seems fine, but loading seems to suffer. 

I've heard a firmware update to the 980 Pro can unlock faster speeds, somewhere in the 6500mb/s range, but unfortunately I don't have a spare NVMe slot on my laptop to update it, only the one currently being used by the boot drive.  I've spoken to Samsung who referred me back to PB Tech who want to charge me $40 on top of what I've already paid to update the firmware! 

Any suggestions to get this updated would be helpful as I'm a bit annoyed that I've got an underperforming SSD that I've got to pay extra for to use at its advertised speed!

Ok, further to my post above (since it's too late to edit, lol), would it be possible to clone the boot drive in my laptop to the D: drive, then boot from that to format the 980 Pro in the one available NVMe slot?  It's a bit of a convoluted way of getting around the problem, but could it be a possible solution? 

toejam316: If you're willing to wipe your D: drive, it might be quicker and easier to do a fresh install of Windows instead.

I don't have a lot on my D: drive to be fair, so it wouldn't take long to copy the data over to an external SSD and format it.  No programs on there, just files, pics etc.

If you haven't already done so, try uninstalling the game first then reinstalling directly to the SSD rather than copying it across drives. This worked for me for God of War which was stuttering badly after moving drives.

You don't lose save game data when you uninstall a game. From memory they are stored separately.
