I was super looking forward to this game, rushed in to get it release day, but in my opinion it's probably a 5/10 for me.

I can't recall the last star wars anything that left me colder. Movement and cameras are awful, some of the combat is so unbalanced it's impossible to master, esp facing a group and it's just not that fun...

On top of that, there are LONG loading times if you die on console, which is being fixed in a patch but yikes!

Considering where the games were quite a few years ago, this is so much worse. I can't recall the title, but it was based on third person and you could pull and push people off a cliff, it was actually crazy good fun and the saber fights were engaging.

What are you people thinking of it?

What console are you on?  Any time I die it's instant, I'm back on the last thing I was standing on before I died.  Like super instant.

I pretty much disagree with every negative point you've raised.  Could be because I'm not experiencing the technical difficulties you are having.

In terms of combat, it's a block/parry/attack melee style game, e.g. Dark Souls.  Once you can master that you'll be fine.  If you can't master that, build up your force skills like pull and push, and then you can just go through the game using those from a distance rather than having to fight close quarters.

Well, I don't even have push or pull yet.

I am on PS4 Pro with an SSD in it. I wonder if the patch that fixed it is out since I last played it which was Saturday.

Interesting, I've also been playing on my PS4 Pro on a hybrid SSD.  I've noticed none of the issues you mentioned.  I can't help with that side of it, but perhaps you'd benefit from a couple of those "10 things I wish I knew when I started Fallen Order" type YouTube videos, they can be quite handy sometimes.  There's good skills to put your upgrade points into early, and good places to go to get things that will help you progress the game easier e.g. lightsaber variants.  Once you discover each world the game is fairly flexible in where you decide to go so there's nothing stopping you going to some of the more advantageous (but not necessarily story important at the time) planets earlier than you might otherwise during the actual story.

I wouldn't say I'm disappointed at this point, only on the 2nd planet, but there are few things that don't sit well for me. I'm playing on PC btw.

Combat is definitely a challenge, even just on Jedi Knight mode for me. I know people like a challenge, but when you combine multiple deaths with having to start some way back and do it all again when you die that's just frustrating. I do have the double bladed lightsabre now so maybe that will help.

Environment aspects are blue (for slow) but also now I'm seeing things that are red (push\pull?) that I can't interact with 'cos I don't have the skill yet. I'm hoping I don't have to go back again and check all those areas when I do get the skill.

The other thing is the mouse cursor will appear as you move it around the screen and flicker... that's a little weird and graphically annoying.

Otherwise, I'm enjoying the exploration angle as they tend to reward you for doing so, that's a plus. Story wise I'm assuming I'm not that far in yet 'cos the exploration and most of the combat aspects are what's pulling me in at this point, not the story.

i dont have issues with load times on xbox one x.

but i agree, this game sucks.   the camera/jumps are frustrating.  sliding down hills then trying to jump on a barely visible rope just to miss time after time after time, then you finally do it, but youve lost so much health from falling, a few storm troopers kill you and youre back doing the jump rubbish.

i played about 5 hours of this game, then i thought "why am i playing this??" and turned it off.  its frustrating, the fighting is terrible, the puzzles are annoying (lets push some giant balls around like were tomb raider 95 again).

so much potential, but the game isnt fun.  just replay one of the newer tomb raider games instead.. or HZD.  so much more fun.

I do agree some of the "slide here, corner here, jump here, land here" moments need tweaking in subsequent updates.  Hopefully they can do that.  I would spend 10x attempts to land one simple jump sometimes, but you do learn how to get around the game's inadequacies.  Overall though I'm very impressed with the game, especially in lieu of the history of Star Wars games....

Aside from the game play, does the story get more involving? I've just completed the first vault on Zeffo (the giant balls one :-)).

It's world-expanding, lore, and story are great, but I agree combat and controls/cameras are mediocre at best, and it's too 'on rails' to really feel like open world exploring. Best Star Wars game in a few years, sure, but that's mostly by virtue of other recent attempts being rubbish. The Dark Forces/Jedi Knight series was miles better as an action/shooter, and KOTOR is a far better RPG / story /adventure. But it's still a decent bit of fun.

From what ive played so far, its alright, I agree with the combat comments though i do miss the ability of throwing ones lightsaber or access to more force powers, One thing that it really does do well is, make me want to play Jedi Academy again now that was a great Star Wars game imo as you had access to both sides of the force and a choice to go to the dark side; I really want a proper remaster of that game made in a modern engine and maybe expand on the original game story wise :D But Fallen Order is alright for what it is. I think people's hopes are way too high and considering the fallout from Battlefront 2 is still there
