You only need the storage card for new gen games. You can play and load all BC games from USB 3.1 external HDD.

And in fact, it looks like a decent SATA or NVMe SSD hooked up by USB3 will load last gen games basically the same speed as the internal SSD does: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7y-Fy1Q2O2k

I'd save even more money and just stick with a SATA SSD in a usb enclosure for old gen games. There was a couple of seconds in it and you'll get more storage for your money going that way, an nvme drive seems overkill as it will be held back by the usb ports. In the first few months that will be more than enough to tide you over until the cards get some competition in the market that is supposedly coming later.

Also worth knowing quick resume will work on games installed to the usb drive too, seems the suspend state saves to the nvme drive no matter where it came from. Handy if you are playing off even a mechanical usb drive

billgates: I am going with EBGames trade in offer this time around for Xbox. $449 is a fantastic price for a One X trade in and the staff mentioned that you may get even more trade in $ value being a silver card member but they will get that confirmed in few days time. I am happy with $449 price and not dealing with trademe selling my old console.

That's been confirmed overseas to be the case(https://press-start.com.au/news/xbox/2020/09/10/eb-games-trade-deals-for-the-xbox-series-x-s-are-quite-good/), so, would expect this to also apply in NZ.

My plan was to go straight to Level 3 (am a new member) by doing the following, and then getting more in extra trade in than the cost.

Members may progress straight to EB World membership Level 3 for a twelve (12) month period when they purchase a physical subscription to ‘Australian & New Zealand Game Informer Magazine’ for AUD $29.95 / NZ $39.95

Sadly, it looks like that option is no longer available due to the magazine stopping in AU/NZ.

For new members of EB games, looks like there will be additional trade credit if the trade in occurs in the week before launch. I received an email stating that the trade in bonus would be 10% 3-9th November, with double points on any accessory's / games traded at the same time.

NEXT-GEN VIP TRADE WEEK: EB Trade Policy applies. Double EB World Bonus applies to games and accessories only. EB World Level 1 bonus increased from 0% to 10%. Not to be combined with any other offers. Offer valid 3rd – 9th November 2020.

So, it looks like for the Xbox One X trade in I will be receiving $385 instead of $350 if I trade in during that timeframe. Quite happy with that.

@ dolsen

I had a phone call from EB today and told me the same thing as well. I forgot to ask him this but does the extra 10% apply for trading PS4 pro and if you are level 1? I'm getting a PS5 and today's call was to confirm that i was getting day one. I think trade in value is $320 for ps4 pro

I had the same call today from EB games; given Cyberpunk 2077 has been delayed YET AGAIN, I am considering it.

In other news, man I hadn't quite grasped the size difference between the XSX and the PS5, but damn, the PS5 makes it look tiny in comparison.

So we've made it to a week out.  Has anyone had any updates from any stores about their orders?

Does anyone know how the Warehouse Click & Collect will work? Will I be able to go into my selected store on release day or am I going to have to wait their for a couple of days after release because that's their usual click and collect timeframe?

Also my email says release date on the 9th (monday) but I thought it releases the 10th (tuesday)?

Ebgames has confirmed that my click and collect will be available at 7 am on Tuesday 10th :)

contrast this with Noel Leeming, who I paid the full cost of a PS5 for, who has provided no information.  I’m not holding out much hope for NL - when I preordered my Xbox one with them on launch some years ago, they didn’t have it when I went to pick it up.

I get email updates from PBtech stating that its still on order to be fullfilled and talking to their CSRs they anticipate it being sent for delivery on the 10th, so will get it around 11/12th probably knowing my luck.  Wanted to do click and collect but I couldn't get past the ebgames ordering issues for region so had to stump it with pBtech unfortunately/

Nothing yet from Harvey Norman. Still for 'delivery', no date yet.

If they can turn it into click and collect on the 10th, that would be good!

I need to get out and buy another controller anyway

Had a phone call from EB games confirming my series X pre-order for launch day.

Interestingly they were trying to convince me to bring in my One X a few days early to do the trade in, presumably to speed things up on the actual day.

I am really disappointed by the launch games titles. Not really sure if there is anything I am desperate to play. It's almost a mirror to the Xbox One Launch. You'd think they would have at least a couple of can't live withouts

I'm holding off until there's some decent game package deal.  Probably looking at the next Halo instalment.  I'm sure they will have some package deal for that release.  Until then I can't see the point in upgrading from the Xbox One (other than having a nice new shiny toy I really shouldn't buy 😁).

So spoke to someone at the Warehouse and not only did they say their release date of the 9th is wrong (obviously, but it's what my email says) but they claim they don't actually get stock until release day, which is then sent to stores after that and then allow 1-4 days for click and collect.

Does the Warehouse actually know what a release date is?  I honestly do not believe they don't receive stock until the 10th, which is then only sent to stores on the 10th.

If only EB Games website didn't screw up with the suburb BS when I was trying to order through them.  Certainly never ordering anything with the Warehouse again for "release day"

I'd be very surprised if MS ship to suppliers on release day. MS will know for certain there are a certain percentage of buyers who the big attraction is the toy on release day.  I suspect Rural and Courier issues may mean some get it a few days afterward, but MA have been clear that they intend to deliver to the customer ON the release date.

Perhaps the Warehouse don't really care and won't put a priority on it, but that would be incredibly bad form.
