Changing the upstairs Xbox to your home xbox should have solved the problem - that should allow your son to download and play any of your games (including Gamepass games) and play online using Xbox Live on that Xbox (and to do all that without you signing in on it). It should also let you play those games with him, with you being signed in only on the other Xbox.

If your son can't access the Gamepass games without you being logged in to that Xbox, perhaps have another look on your account whether your home xbox status has transferred across to it successfully. But, be aware that there are limits on how often you can swap which is your home xbox (i.e. swapping it back and forth to resolve the issue may not be an option).

So we did actually make some progress. To make it work I changed the upstairs to home Xbox and then logged out of that one and logged in downstairs. My son and I can now play Forza but he is showing as online features locked. I can't see him online at all.

Not sure what the problem would be there - but could there be parental controls active on his account? These can be used to block various features of Xbox Live, like chat and adding friends.

Having more than one Xbox online under the same public IP can also cause problems - they might not be able to communicate with one another, or one might get booted off Xbox Live.

The most straightforward way for it to work correctly is to have UPnP running so each Xbox can open its own port forwarding (but some would prefer not to because of the associated security concerns). You might also need to activate hairpin NAT.

I’ve also found that not all routers have equal implementations of UPnP - for example pfSense will not function correctly with more than one Xbox, even when correctly configured (although I understand this is now being addressed after many years).

I’m guessing from your name that you might have something beyond a standard ISP router in place?

Yeah, I do, and it doesn't support UPnP.

I will need to check parental controls, but he plays Minecraft online using that account so I'd guess not, and he was able to use the Xbox downstairs to play online.

Could be the two IP's on the same network thing I guess. It's a little strange though.

I guess I could plug the downstairs xbox to test it.

If you haven't got it sorted later I can check as my kids play on an Xbox one X with their own accounts but its set as my 'home' while I play on my Series X elsewhere... I know that last year it worked fine as we all played ARK together, my two kids on the One X and me on the Series X both using GamePass installs... They just can't play via xcloud...

I think without having UPnP available on your router, you may have some difficulty getting this to work seamlessly.

For whatever reason, Xboxes seem to have difficulty with online play, unless you have port forwarding in place (and it's worse with two or more in a NAT arrangement).

You can now specify the port an Xbox will use for Xbox Live (Settings>General>Network settings>Advanced settings>Alternate port selection) and could potentially set up manual port forwarding to each Xbox using a different port. However, some games (e.g. Warzone) also need additional port(s) forwarded, with no way to manually specify a different port for each Xbox (but will do this automatically if using UPnP).

I'm not sure why the port forwarding is still needed to make things work, given most of the games are now server hosted, but that does still seem to be the case.

That's probably about the limit of how much I can assist with this one, unfortunately.

Thanks. I don't see myself setting up port forwarding to my xbox's to be honest. If it won't work, we will wait for GamePass Family and see if it's worthwhile.

I'll change the ports in the next 24 hours and see if that helps. Otherwise I might see what MS Support has to say about it.

Changing the ports fixed the issue and my Son and I were able to play online together with one Game Pass Ultimate account.

You are a superstar, thanks for your assistance.

Has anyone else's Microsoft rewards suddenly started giving points for bing searches? I just happened to click on it on my console and it said get rewarded for bing searches and I've managed to get 90 points for pc searches and 60 for mobile. Checked my computer and it's there too.

I know this has been a thing elsewhere but this will really help build up points if we can earn then this way now.

This has been the case for some time now. I even tried to use Bing but the results are appalling and not event close to what I am searching for, so back to Google.

It has? I've never managed to get it to work in the past sby of using a VPN that breaks the terms of service.

I'm not using bing but just have a load of saved bookmarks I open daily for the points, takes less than a minute to do all 50 searches needed. It's now enough points to pretty much pay for gamepass on its own from the rewards program which I think makes it worth spending the minute on.
