Welp - I've gone and ordered a 256GB Deck as a Christmas pressie to myself. Will update later with how it is when I get it (early next year at the latest)

Scholarly:

Pretty impressed that MightyApe has them, albiet at a $500ish markup (based on conversion at the time of writing between this and RRP on the Steam Store).

Saw a pretty nice comparison video between the 64GB and the 512GB that has me thinking that the 64GB won't actually be so bad....

Currently trying to rationalize myself out of buying one, but it's a struggle - There's a long list of games that I'd genuinely enjoy with this device, and at the price of most modern phones.... Someone talk me out of it, please. 😅😂

Nope, go and buy one. Enjoy it

Valve Steam Deck (64GB) $848.70 + Free Shipping @ VChain Global ECommerce via Dick Smith (Kogan)

Shop Steam Deck 64GB Handheld Portable Gaming Console - Dick Smith. . 814585021271

Other Cheapies have purchased from this store recently with no issues (so far)

I bought a 64gb steam deck from dick smith and v chain global on the 19th December and it arrived yesterday (5 January). No problems with it whatsoever.
They use toll and I got an update to say it arrive in the country and was on the way to my city and then it randomly appeared yesterday.
It was wrapped in a plain white plastic postage bag with the steam deck box covered in bubble wrap inside. No damage to the box.
It was the cheapest deal at the time so if you're willing to wait I'd recommend it!

I bought from vchain global (through duck smith) (or whatever) for.my.pixel 7 and it took about a week and a half from me placing the order.

I have no complaints. Zero idea about warranty though

Honestly that is a good deal if anyone is looking.

I had my eyes on a steam deck for a while and the Mightyape prices were a little bit too steep for me.

I am importing a 64GB verison from Steam, ordered on the 1st January and shipped to Youshop (arrived yesterday and Youshop notified today)

Now to wait for it to be flown out to NZ.... if the FAA systems dont crash again.

Importing was a bit of work with VPN and digital cards, I definitely would have gone with the deal above.

Cost if anyone is interested

Steam Deck $399 USD to approx $633.62 NZD

Wise account to get digital USA card $14 NZD

15% GST $94.21 NZD

Shipping via air $55.89 NZD

Tariff classification fee $46.00

Total $843.72 current total

USA Steam Deck arrived today just in time for my annual leave.

Took about 3 weeks to arrive.

Spent the morning replacing the 64GB drive with a 1 TB drive and re-installing the steam O/S.

If anyone else has their eye out, the best deal seems to be expansys (never used them, but cheaper than it worked out for me).

NZ$794.99 (inc GST)

Hmmm.. I just ordered a Retroid Pocket 3 to play Steam Link and PS Remote Play. Now I’m wondering if I should have splashed out for a Steam Deck instead. It still seems like you pay a premium to get one landed here.

Got a 64GB from MightyApe.

Where can I pick up a bigger SSD in NZ? I know PBTech have the 256gb but I was hoping for 512 or 1TB

Just FYI, not New Zealand but i got Western Digital WS SN740 for$250.64 including GST and shipping.

https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005004873375947.html

Ordered on the 1st January and arrived on the 17th of January.

It seems most of reddit needed to buy the SSD's form alliexpress as most retails do not usually carry them.

I would also highly highly recommend getting some tools if you do not have any.

I got this set of tools for $8.22 including shipping

Ordered on the 1st January and arrived on the 18th of January.

There were major delays in China due to Covid-19 when i ordered, so shipping can vary.

I also got a screen protector, TPU case, and Dock for the steam deck. if you have any questions feel free to ask.

I decided to just grab a 256gb SSD and a 512gb microSD from PBTech.

Already loving the Steam Deck. Played a few smaller games in my Steam library which I don’t even remember buying (probably Humble Bundles) and tried out a few emulators. So good.

I received my Steam Deck via YouShop. I purchased it when it was on sale and the forward shipping plus gst added about $180. So the total ended up something like $760 NZD.

Haven’t had too much of a play with it yet but it seems good, I have a GPD Win Max Also but I never really use it as it’s a bit clunky with Windows.

I also have an Analogue Pocket for playing my old Gameboy carts. I’m starting to think I might enjoy collecting hardware more than I do actually playing games.

That's an awesome price, what module is it?

Ya I hear you about hardware, there are various Gameboys, 2ds,3ds Nintendo switches etc lying in my drawer....
