CJbravo: I popped in to Dick Smith Wyndham St today and talked to a very knowledgeable guy there who knew all about Jasper Xboxes.  He said they'd just sold their last Jasper box (an Arcade) but he even went to the trouble of calling two other nearby stores if they had any - I heard the conversations and he knew what  information to be asking them to check (was great as it saved me two trips!).
He said that his store had sold most of their current Xbox ranges thanks to their recent sales and so in their next orders they would (in his opinion) be getting Jasper units - both Arcade and Pro - to be arriving *in the next week* (i.e. 9-13 Feb).  Prices he said would be $320 for Arcade and $445 for Pro.  I'm certainly going back in there, as I need 3 of the little suckers for clients to be media centre extenders!

I posted this on the other Jasper discussion that's going on here. Playtech (http://www.playtech.co.nz/product.php?action=showdetail&id=6051) are selling them and specifically list them as Jaspers. I picked one up the other day - $439 for the Pro system.

Sorry about that - I didn't realise there were multiple threads going on.  Good to know about Playtech - thanks.

No problem! I just posted it again for your benefit in case you wanted to make sure you could guarantee you were getting a Jasper and could get one now instead of waiting to see what DSE end up getting. Smile

Ooh... Maybe I should scoop that up while it's still there.

Did you get the game-bundle one or standalone?

It was the standalone console (although they threw in Lego Indiana Jones and Kungfu Panda). They were happy to take the power supply out of the box for me to check it was 150w - you might want to do the same to be sure.

Wow, this is perfect timing as I'm in the market for a 360 (My first). I think I might go for an arcade - can always buy a HDD later on.

Anyone know if these are Jasper?

Also, can I connect the unit to a Apple Airport Express (802.11n)?

imposible to tell. you need to look at the amps on the xbox the batch number and the date of manafacture. as far as i have seen if you want a jasper in NZ you are best to go for a go pro package

the ones in the pics you gave links to come with the memory card. i hear the jasper arcade bundle has inbuilt memory instead of the memory card so i would suggest you are out of luck.

i think they are doing those game bundles to clear the old chipsets so i would stear clear of those and stick with the go pro, if you go to the likes of the warehouse they dont give a rats arse if you poke and prod at the box most of the time they will let you open it. just ask. other retailers such as noel lemaings and harvy norman dont like ya proding and stuff. once they get it out of the store they not going to get another one for ya.

hope that points you in the correct place

Hu? did i do that?

Yep as heretohelp said above. The only way you are going to get a guaranteed Jasper is by buying a Pro from Playtech (I asked them a couple weeks ago and they said that only the Pro systems were Jaspers) or going in to a store and asking to look at their boxes. However that could end up being very time consuming and you still end up not finding one.

I've had mine for a couple weeks now and MUCH quieter than my launch console, and a lot cooler too, so very happy.

I'm not sure about it being able to connect to the Airport Express, but according to Apple it is interoperable with 802.11b and 802.11g devices, so if you're using the wireless adaptor for the Xbox I don't see why it wouldn't connect.

Thanks for the replies guys. Just picked up a 60GB Pro at DSE Riccarton.

I initially went to HN Moorehouse Ave but they didn't have any Pro 60GB Jaspers - Went in with the idea of buying an Arcade but considering what you get extra with the Pro 60GB, I think its worth the extra $100.

(P.S. Saw copies of Halo Wars there for sale, but release date is Feb 26??)

Anyway the salesperson at HN told me that Consoles sold from the 26th bundled with Halo Wars will 99% be Jaspers.

So went to DSE at Westfield Riccarton. Salesperson was very helpful but didn't seem to know about the Jasper chipset. He showed me the box and it said week 48 2008 - I decided to buy it. Also got exdended warrranty (2 years) for $59 in case Murphy decides to strike after 12 months. (I know what your thinking and you're right, the next Gen console will be here by then, but hey, better safe than sorry)

So I got home and its definitely a Jasper - Manufactured 6 Dec 08

I'm setting it up right now and I'm happy as a fat rat. My first console since 2001 (Was a PSX)

I got a 'Go Pro' Jasper here in Auck last weekend.  Ended up getting it from Dick Smith Newmarket, they were really helpful and friendly and they have Jasper stock now - it sounds like most DSE's will also have sold out of their old stock and now have Jaspers.  In this time of 'change over', though, you do still need to check the manufacture date (0849 or better, although 'James Bond' above says his 0848 is also Jasper) and make sure it is 12.1A - visible through the serial number cut-out window even on the Pro packaging.
(I got into the habit of checking manufacture date on the box first, because it was the easiest thing to check.  Then as soon as I found a likely one, I'd do the serial number windows shuffle!)
