Playing with the free AMD copy, must say first 20mins is very much, meh happy I didn't buy it stand alone so far. Especially compared to BG3 and it's start, I really hope the story improves along with the graphics once away from the starting area...

How did you claim it? I have done it through amd rewards but no code yet?

Go to the AMD rewards page and on the My Rewards tab you should be able to click the Activate product on Steam button.

Note: I believe only the Premium edition is available now, it you only have the Standard Edition I don't think its been released yet.

Benoire:

It currently feels like fallout 4 but in space... that might be due to the Bethesda way and therefore it feels comfortable and familiar to me...

That is how the game currently is feeling to me. I have to say I am happy they haven't gone with F4 dialouge system, it feels more like the older stuff.

NPC's have a little bit of this uncanny valley look to them, textures on misc items and props are god awful tho.

Had some driver level crashes, seems like I am not the only one though, I think I will enjoy the game tho, I am still in the tutorial missions, This is what i guess when people say it has a slow start.

However there are a lot of systems and mechanics in the game and i would rather do the starting missions than trying to figure them out by myself.

So far story wise.... it is lacking but BG3 wrecked all AAA games in terms of starting story for the next few years imo.

Not sure about everyone else, had to turn up my FoV, it was way too narrow in first person mode, there are instructions on reddit on how to do an ini file.

TB would def have words if he was still here.

As per Throbb, via the AMD rewards page, linking your steam account but base game verision will need to wait until closer to release date.

Through the AMD rewards, though it was the premium version.

Had a crack at this for a few hours yesterday. I can see why people say it's a long haul to the fun. There are a LOT of systems and mechanics to learn and get fluid with. It doesn't seem to be as much of a grinding for xp and resource issue, just the sheer scope of the game logic is vast. I imagine that will make it all the more rewarding for the people that sink 100+ hours into it.

For those on xbox, how is the performance?

I’ve already had to help some friends to use the DLSS mod, fsr2 is not cutting it during motion at all.

I've watched some reviews/benchmarks based on the early access players, and it looks like this may be a future benchmark game (like Cyberpunk was previously) based on how high the requirements are for good gameplay at high settings (on pc - I know many are playing on Xbox).  It seems like you need a decent CPU to handle all the busy places like in cities, and as much GPU as you can throw at it - most evident in the dialogue scenes where the textures ramp up to try give you the best detail for watching them speak.  If you want gameplay at 4K Ultra settings you pretty much need either a 4090 or 7900XTX, so those of us with normal budgets are going to have to turn off some settings, put up with slower FPS, or else play the game at 1440p.

I am playing at 4k Native with 7900 XTX average FPS 45 FPS, GPU and CPU isn't being maxed out utilization can be all over the place.

FSR2 and settings don't seem to boost FPS, I think I am being limited by my CPU i7 8700 even though it isn't maxing out.

I will see how drivers and patches go and maybe upgrade when black friday rolls around.

Rock Paper Shotgun had a settings guide i tried out and have gotten a pretty solid 60 with dips to low 50s.

Mine is fine for not stuttering, and the low FPS isnt that noticible when not moving, just turned off the film grain, motion blur and depth of field because I hate all 3 of them.

Control feels really laggy compared to no mans sky, I have a hell of a time aiming at the enemy

Have pre-ordered the disc from Mighty Ape. Joined their Primates thing on a 14-day free trial and got $10 off and free shipping > $99 all up. That’s pretty reasonable given that a US gamer would pay US$70 (~NZ$120) + shipping.

MA are promising day-before shipping so that it arrives on release date. Ha - will see how that goes - nice thought but will believe it when I see it. I’m only 20 km from them on the North Shore.

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

SpartanVXL: I’m not holding my breath for this. It’s made by Bethesda and Todd Howard at the helm, very likely to be another Skyrim/Fallout style release unless proven otherwise, which means almost better to wait a while until bugs are fixed and mods are released.

Not that it affects me but it also has a 30fps lock on consoles. With the way temporal solutions are and excessive use of blur I really couldn’t justify getting this on xbox at all.

Edit: that said I forgot about gamepass, if i’m bored between bowand cyberpunk release getting gamepass for a month to play might be worth it.

My thoughts also....

Fallout New Vegas imho would be the greatest Fallout game ever.

Bethesda's Fallout 3 & Fallout 4 don't hold a candle to it unfortunately.

It's a remarkably un-buggy experience at launch.

Actually have to agree, had a couple clipping bugs but mostly been good.

Might be the best launch from them I have played a part from a driver level issue.
