Well, it’s now confirmed and, although we don’t know how it will be priced in NZ, judging by hefty overseas price increases it’s certainly going to be very expensive here.

Larger than the latest Slim model but pretty much the same dimensions as the original PS5. Separate disc drive and 2TB SSD storage. In overseas markets, pre-orders open 26 Sept for deliveries starting on 7 November - maybe also in NZ?

There is nothing there that makes me want it over my PS5

Called it, possibly equivalent to AMD’s 7700xt or just under, anyone with a 3070ti or better doesn’t need to worry for a while. Don’t think they’ve adjusted CPU much but they might have increased clocks. A bit funny the presentation called out gamers selecting performance mode 3 out of 4 times for games, looks like console players are adjusting to more than 30fps.

Based on the overseas pricing I would expect an NZ price of $1,300 to $1,400 here without a disc drive. That's almost twice the price of the current PS5 Slim model. I wasn't that interested in the Pro and I'm certainly not now at that price.

I'm looking forward to seeing how ridiculous the price is. If it's $1400 I could buy a PS5 Slim and Xbox Series X for nearly the same price.

In the US the PS5 Slim Digital sells for USD450.

In NZ that model sells for NZD770. The implied exchange rate is 0.5874 compared to the current market rate of 0.6150.

In the US the Pro is going to sell for USD700. Applying 0.5874 gives an indicative price of ~NZD1,200 - unless Sony change their approach. And of course, exchange rates move.

Predictions above of up to $1,400 imply Sony will apply an exchange rate of 0.5000 - which isn’t realistic at this time and isn’t supported by what Sony have historically done.

Anyone that's stupid enough to buy this needs their head checked. What an utterly pointless and overpriced product

Confirmed at $1199 in Australia so I'm definitely thinking $1399 here at least.

Confirmed on Facebook at $1379 still expensive

Eek! Part of me has to wonder what the price would have been if Xbox had sold a lot more this generation.

Although having said that, I remember as a kid the original PlayStation being roughly about $800 in the mid 1990's. So perhaps compared to some other expenses, we've been lucky not to have such drastic rises in console prices over the years.

I was going to sell my PS5 and pick one of these up, but at $1379 without a disc drive or a vertical stand (not that I use a vertical stand, but really?) I think that money is better put aside for a next generation graphics card instead.

Anything I say is the ramblings of an ill informed, opinionated so-and-so, and not representative of any of my past, present or future employers, and is also probably best disregarded.

I remember paying $1,199 in March 2007 for my launch 60Gb PS3. I still have it too

Mate I'll sell you my 3080 with 5800x powered pc for $1500. It'll run better, last longer, do more, play more, for the same price.

This console does nothing for the market. It serves no purpose, it has no place.
