Yea that price is regrettable, ps4/pro pricing wasn’t this bad. The GPU increase is not worth the cost.

$1379? Really? That's a hard pass from me when it doesn't include the stand for vertical placement, has no optical drive at that price, and with still with that dumb form factor. I love my PS products, but that's way out of line.

Mate I'll sell you my 3080 with 5800x powered pc for $1500. It'll run better, last longer, do more, play more, for the same price.

This console does nothing for the market. It serves no purpose, it has no place.

When I game on my high spec PC, the hoops I have to jump through to get games working are crazy. AAA PC releases are pretty buggy initially, game starting failure buggy.

I buy a console game, walk into my lounge with my big screen TV, surround sound, arm chair, and am playing within 10 minutes. EVERY single time.

I have not had to ‘fix’ any of the releases on Steam for a very long time. I download and press play and it works. The posts I see online about issues with recent releases were all attributed to Intel’s recent ball drop which only officially published recently.

He’s still right when comparing to the base ps5, the pro doesn’t serve a purpose at that price point, can get two ps5’s or a xsx instead.

In the US the PS5 Slim Digital sells for USD450.

Your US pricing doesn;t include sales tax?

Edit: Looks like its been confirmed at $1,379

Yes, good and fair point - didn’t think of that.

Doubt that it’s going to sell like hot cakes at that price.

I certainly won't be buying 1 at that price. And I would normally consider myself a serial Playstation upgrader with each day 1 release but not this time. All that money just to get 60fps and fidelity mode? I'm happy to run games in performance mode and forgo a few shiny surfaces. And I think I said it earlier in the thread, I'd probably need to upgrade my TV to get the most out of the Pro which I have no intention to do so as its a perfectly fine TV that's only ~4yrs old.

Isn't a lot of this feature set what the PS5 was supposedly going to offer at launch?

For me the kicker is that the games I play are largely repackaged year-in, year-out and very infrequently get an actual ground-up upgrade.

The EA games are particularly notorious for this, and now they have two of the big three racing franchises on PS.

There's conflicting info on the internet as to whether the Slim disc drive is compatible with Pro - or whether the Pro drive is a new and different model.

Edit: Just saw this PS blog which says: 'PS5 Pro is available as a disc-less console, with the option to purchase the currently available Disc Drive for PS5 separately.'

Also saw this story on Polygon which says:   '... the existing PS5 disc drive attachment is compatible with the more powerful [Pro] model...'.

I mean that's something.

I still want some assurances about the fidelity on some of the other games. Even on the  PC versions, the EA WRC games have some pretty incredible graphics issues. Lipstick and pigs and all that.

Gran Turismo seems to be a Sony PS5 Pro hero title (too bad I hate it :( )

There are no assurances on performance especially at 4k target. Everything is being upscaled, the extra gpu just means you get a bit more at 60fps.

FWIW the guy in this Kotaku story is in the same position and has exactly the same mind-set as I do regarding an upgrade to PS5 Pro (the only difference is that, unlike him, I don’t also have a gaming PC).

I wouldn’t use his word ‘excited’ but I will look forward to it.

No - but it does look very nice. Haven’t seen any pricing yet - not even for overseas. I imagine there will be very few (maybe none) for NZ.

 This article says:

" ...PS5 Pro 30th Anniversary bundle is being sold exclusively through the PlayStation Direct Store ..." - and that doesn't operate in NZ (or Australia) - so none for us.
