I got a PS3 a month or so ago and loving it.. Picks up all my videos from XBMC and mythtv servers and plays most of them ok. I've borrowed a few games from people and its great.

Just waiting another 1.5 weeks for the delivery of Beatles Rock band Limited Edition Bundle. Trying to find the extra 2 guitars in NZ but no one seems to have it.. vgn.co.nz have a 2 guitar pack but have no idea yet what guitars they are (looking at the price they are probably RB1 guitars which aren't very good and I want the 2 extra beatles ones).

If anyone is interested in swapping games for a while I would be interested..

Lower power consumption which will be good for those using it as part of a home theatre as the fan will not run as much so it will be a little better noise wise. I understand the internal hardware placement has been reconfigured as well so this should also help with cooling.

You can't run Linux on the new model.

Apart from that not much else has changed.

Also this new one can send out the compressed bluray hd audio (bitstream) which allows for a receiver to do the uncompressing. This was not possible in the original PS3, which had to uncompress the audio and send out the raw LPCM, meaning a receiver never did the uncompressing, and never showed the relevant audio format lights.

I personally don't see that it makes any difference, but some people will be happy their expensive receiver shows the format light now.

It irks me just the smallest bit, I know it's doing it but to see it on the receiver confirmed would be nice. Not nice enough to get rid of my first release 60gb one though and get a new slim one.

Yeah I know what you mean and I feel the same as your quote above.  I'm not going to ditch my existing PS3 just to get a new one for this one feature alone.

If it makes you feel better it's akin to me sending you an email with some pictures directly attached, or me zipping them up and attaching the zipped file to the email.  In the first instance you open the email and there they are, in the second you have to unzip the file your end first before you can view the pictures.  End of the day, you still see the same pictures either way.

I saw an ad for noel leeming the other day and im sure it said "PS3 slim + BluRay remote + $60 of vouchers for $595" but maybe im mistaken because it doesnt mention the vouchers on the website.

PS3 Slim + Remote $598

PS3 Slim + Little Big Planet $649 - awesome game to play with a few people at once.

Noel Leeming=PS3 + Blue Ray Remote + 6x $10 PS3 Gaming Vouchers. Gaming Vouchers can only be used in $10 amounts per game, not a $60 hit on one title.

JBHifi had nothing to offer other than they will have stock.

DSE had the PS3 bundled with Arkham Asylum $599

Bond and Bond have a selection of bundles with title for $598 (including LBP)

The Warehouse has the best deal ive seen so far:

549$ !!! plus a free game from a limited selection. from the mailer on their website it looks like a
choice between Ironman, Assassins Creed, Ghost Recon 2 and one other title i cant quite make out.

Harvey Norman were only offering 595$ plus a controller charging cradle last i heard.

I think we have a winner!

I can't work out what that other game is either: Some dude in a motorcycle helmet with a submachine gun. I can't see his gang patch though...

My Gamesman package is ready to ship, it said Awaiting Games for about a week, then today my credit cards been debited, hopefully they have it on hand to ship out overnight :)
Damn that Warehouse deal would've been good, Assassins Creed is fun, but I'll make do with my Ghostbusters and Little Big Planet
